Subdiv - squares instead of circles

Hello!

I was watching the Cartoon Dog Tutorial and when Kurt converted the poly to subdiv, the vertexes appeared as circles, like this:

But when I converted the poly to subdiv, the vertexes appeared as squares (like when the model was a poly) and the the legs are flatten like they were before... I got this really strange result:

What can I do to fix this? I've heard of you about cleaning up the geometry but Kurt's cartoon dog model isn't "hyper clean" so I was thinking to start to do that from the beginning in the next model I'd work on. Is it necessary to start the cleaning process in this model? My problem as to do with that?

Here is the file, if it is needed:

dog2.zip

Thank you, :)

there is nothing wrong with your model, the vertice difference is purely a custom choice in the preferences, Kurt made the tutorial a long time ago when sub d vertices used to display the sub d density level hence why there are zeros, if he refined the mesh by selecting it and hitting finer the zeros or circles would change to the number 1, it is simply a method to show the current sub d level you are on and wont hinder your model in anyway.

If you want it to look like in the video simply go to Windows -> Setting/Preferences -> Preferences -> Subdivs -> Numbers

Thank you, now I understand why I have squares instead of circles :)

And my second problem, the flatten parts... Why Kurt's dog feet are so smooth and my dog's feet are so flat?

And what is the sub d density level? And how can I change it?

Kurt "answered" my question about the flatten legs and feet in the subdivision! :attn:

After some time, in the cartoon's dog video tutorial (part 4), he says: "(...) hit 3 (...)" - when he is adding more detail and he converts the model to subdiv again. So I pressed '3' in the number pad, in my keyboard, and the flatten legs and feet got smooth!

Anyway, thanks for your attention! :)
