nvidia vs radeon
i am not sure of the nvidia model (ill pot on friday) bur i can get either that or an Ati Radeon 5550 for 60$CAN
the guy said they're pretty equal but id like to know if there is driver problems with either one of them also when i post the nvidia model id like to know which one is better for maya if there are no driver probs EDIT: nvidia=6500 radeon=9550 Not 5550 my bad |
mate, your best bet is just to check your card against alias's own qualification charts.
http://www.alias.com/eng/support/may...ya_70_osx.html From what I have heard you are probably best going with nvidia, but I am sure others have different views.:) |
cool ill look into that later im gonna make the trip to pc-tek right now to check the model #s
thanks man:beer: |
The BIOS CHip on my NVidia 6600GT hs just died, so I am going for a RADEON X1300. Its cheaper than a GF7600 by £30
|
I am using a Radeon 9550 and i found that it works much better than the equivilant Nvidia card i was using. It was also much cheaper.

I'd have to second what SomeGuy says, it's not a bad card at all.
I bought one in the last week for $51 australian, and have been really pleased with it. Sure, it has an issue or two here and there - but nothing that prevents work. 1 of the 4 panels may 'lag' a bit sometimes and not be refreshed as often as the others, also, I've gotta turn off hardware rendering in the panels if I've got subds, but it's no big deal. To be honest, the biggest gripe I have is that it won't render subds(in hardware), although NURBS are fine. Tried a scene last nite with 348 human ears in it - all polys. Software render took 3.5 minutes, hardware render took 3 seconds. I went with the ATI since AMD have been around for donkey's years and have traditionally been a supplier of vid cards for workstations. - well that and the fact they only wanted 51 bucks for it.:D Note: the ati I have (LEGEND ATi Radeon 9550) has no fan, so it's nice and quiet. EDIT: Just been checking around, it seems that the ATi 8x agp card has a memory bandwidth of 6.4GB/s, while the nVidia card has a bandwidth of as much as 13.4 GB/s. Can't find any benchmarks that will compare the two however. |
I have been lookin to, all I have found is that the differences between cards of the same "stature" GF 6 series and the X Series, there is not much difference that you as a person will really see.
Saying that I pick up my X1300 Pro tomorrow and will let you know what it is like as I have been a die hard NVidia fan for years. |

thanx for all the help people now i just wait till x-mas and see which one my friend wants.....:headbang: boooooring:headbang: |
What the Hell is the point of which part of that exactly?
Telling you, or having a scene with 348 ears? a) Didn't know if you've had a 3d card before, and if not was trying to let you know what sort of performance boost you could expect. if on the other hand, it was (b) I'd been curious to see how much geometry I could model and render without going over the 1 gig of ram I've got. It seemed a hell of a lot easier to simply duplicate the object I was working on the time than anything else.. No?:ninja: |
Oh! I was picturing some kind of monster with 348 ears! Thanks for clearing that up.

Just got my ATI RADEON X1300 Pro 256Mb GDDR3 RAM. It is way better than my GF6600GT 128 (yeah dbl the ram, but ity also seems the images are sharper.

i had a nvidia 2 but then changed to ATI Radeon 9800 PRO 512MB(special eddition, only a few of them in the world and cant buy them anymore) i love it soo much but sometimes it gets too hot you cant touch it and ends up freezing your computer or reseting it and having an error pop up saying that it cannot find your graphics card, (i just have to keep on plugging/unplugging till it can find it). well thats my say,
