Maya Vector Rendering - Major Problems with shading

1 Attachment(s)
Hi :)

well, i tried the vector renderer in maya, fine results, as long as its only single-colored, more colors result in STRAANGE highligts.

I tested it with a simple nurbs sphere, same result, i tesselated it very high, same result, different material, different lighting, same result :(

See Picture, left is vector, right is software rendering, standard lighting, standard material :(

IS that 2 color, Cause it looks nice.

You will get those highlights, as the vector render is a bit finnicky.

Nono i don´t want to have the highlights like the software rendering :) I just want sharp highlights, like its rendered with a cartoon renderer, but the highlights are just.. roughly and not round as they shoud be, just strange in shape.

make an animation of that :D

I dont think There is any way to make them smoother, but I am not a rendering guru.

I am a modelling guru though :):):)

he surrrrre is :)

is it possible to download a proper cel shading plugin?

drknow 27-08-2003 01:55 AM

That depends on what you mean by proper :)

Check out highend3d.com

Maya vector renderer uses the ravix engine which is part of swift 3d. Swift 3D for max has muuuuch better results, there must be a way ^^

I think it would be best to wait untill tomorrow for a decent reply. the only 2 people on the board at the moment are a Moddeling master, and me, who is good at nothing :).

Hey thanks ^^ Helped me a lot, and great site too, gotta check out the materials tuts *g*

djackson362 18-09-2003 08:54 PM

cool no problem i like your model by the way maybe there is a tut for that i suck @ modeling

Joff 18-09-2003 09:59 PM

Thanks :D
A tut for that? No, it´s modelled out of an incredible genious idea ^^
No idea for some BIG maya-project -> boring->tv program sucked -> modeling ;)

I suggest you use Maya for modeling, so try www.learning-maya.com, a LOT tuts.

A great poly-face-modeling-way (i think) is http://mr2k.3dvf.com/tutorials/max/tutorials_joan.htm It´s for max but its no problem to model like that in maya.

Bad english, sorry ;)
