Superman.. old school

Hey all, I'm in the midst of modelling a character similar to the original 1950's Superman George Reeves. So not soo hugely bulky. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the proportions are right?

Falott 26-03-2005 12:01 PM

looks very cool to me!

my sugestions would be those, but in a very subtle way:
head is a very, very little to big compared to the legs -
compared to the body the head seems pretty much ok.
allthough he shouldn´t look bulky his legs appear somehow thin,
in addition I would make them a bit longer, cause with this length
they kind of look like legs from a child.
but thats all a matter of taste. what I would do is to
bloat his calves and wrist a tiny bit

nevertheless dude - your model rocks! like it very much!

Falott, I totally appreciate the advice.. I was needed some sort feedback before I continued with that model.

Falott 26-03-2005 12:34 PM

you´re welcome!

may I ask you what time it took to model him?

I'd say the thighs from hip to knee seem a bit short.

Nice job!

Sure Falott, the body is all still low poly, it didn't take longer then less than a days time. The head I already did, a couple weeks ago he took me about a day to make I was really inspired that day. It pretty detailed, but still pretty low poly.. I wanted to create a head without a normal map.. to make the wrinkles precise. The head I started of with a Andy Griffith persona, from there when I thought of a body to put towards it.. I figured hey make an old superman.

Here's a quick render of his face closer up, I still need to tweak the mouth and nose.

cool, that´s a short time. if I could do a model in one day I´d be very happy. I´m tweaking my head now for about 2-3 weeks and am happy with it but still not satisfied. what I enjoy the most at your model is the very personal character/note of your model. I couldn´t do so by now.

cheers!

Well Falott you gotta give yourself a deadline, and stick to it.. my burning platform right now is these models are going to be used for my demo reel in order for me to graduate from my course. And you got to keep in mind as artists, we're never happy you may want to tweak that head more and more. But you also need to say "thats it" and start working on something else.

I decided to give in and make him a lil more bulky.. here's the update.

Falott 28-03-2005 12:42 PM

ok, you say it! I decided to stop tweaking.

about your model - proportions look somehow better now, even though I have to admit that you were right with your opinion to make em less bulky. kind of like your first version more and I´m sorry now that I´ve said something like >>blow him up<<, because in my eyes the childman looks more stylish.

regards
falott

No worries man, looking at my previous model I do sorta like my first body as well. But for the final pose, he won't be just standing like that, so proportions won't necessarily be an issue. More to come soon.

Hey BillyZ
Can I see a wire of the head please?
