Chirone vs Amoeba

So, the battle will start! :)

End of the battle: 23rd september

We will be modeling and texturing a tank. Thanks to mayaniac for the refs, cutting the image planes and the idea for this battle!
(Note: Me and Chirone will be moddeling with the same refs. They can be found on this page )

One of the reasons this challenge will have 6 weeks time limit is because Chirone is pretty busy with exams, his summer challenge and other things, and because I do not have any experience with texturing/mapping UV's.

And last but not least, good luck Chirone!
:D

may the best model win and this challenge be seen through to the end!!
good luck and have fun!

looks like i get first attack since you're computer is going slow with the image planes

ok, this is just a bunch of polys, 1052 tris already...
21 cylinders of subdivision 10, and 6 cubes, three with extrusions

at the moment its just floating partially attached to the wheel things in the catapillar wheels that are overlapping each other.

as you can tell the flat cube/platform thing is rather confused and needs some cutting up before it gets its shape

Sorry

Sorry for not posting any progress yet... :(
Been busy with some other stuff so I didn't get the time to do much with the tank.

Will be posting progress soon though

Hey!

Don't know if your interested, or if this is too late, but I have found the blueprints for the Panzer you saw in the original image I posted, The one with 2 guns on the front.

Anyway, here they are:

......Part 2

Chirone 11-08-2008 12:34 AM

that's quite a lot more complecated!
the side looks better, the back still confusing me when comparing it to the side (it looks like it should have somthing there that doesn't show up on the side... unless those blocks are indented)

and top is full of lots of new little bits and pieces :p
is that a spade and some hand held weapons on the top?? :ninja:

Not much at all, but at least it's a start...
:o

Chirone 14-08-2008 10:56 PM

yay, we have progress!
you're not switching to Mayaniac's latest pictures?

i'll do an update about wednesday hopefully

amoeba 14-08-2008 11:12 PM

No, I am using the original references at the moment.
;)
I'll probably have a catch-up update tomorrow, and sorry about not getting anything done for a while now...
-_-

Mayaniac 15-08-2008 04:17 AM

Solid start amoeba!

You don't have to use the new references. I just gave to you, so that you would have more options.

Chirone 15-08-2008 12:02 PM

i dont' know if this would be more exciting or more boring if we used the exact same reference
but i'll stick with the initial references ;)

ok i said i'd have something by wednesday, i lie, i had a headache instead

did a bit of work on the wheels and a small touch up on the gun

i saw the wheels are actually curved inwards and are round on the other side

i was wondering how i would do that...and as you can probably tell it was acheived with booleans.
the cylinder didn't have enough edges so i cut it into quarters and fixed one quarter then duplicated it a few times before combining and merging

edges were softened so it looks smoother in the render

verts: 1104
edges: 2247
faces: 1183
tris: 2128
UVs 2452
