High Poly Counts

Iron Tick here.. your fellow nurbs freak. I know there are a lot of poly users in the forums and i wanted to ask a couple of questions concerning high poly count modelling. When I get to a high poly/vert count ( around 70,000 verts ) on my poly models, my model tend to bog down and moving object components becomes very choppy and unresponsive.

Is this normal for poly modeling?
And if so how do you work with or around it?

not a lot of high count poly modeling under my belt so these might have been more along the lines of newbie questions LOL.

Thanks

Normally, you keep your mesh fairly low-res and just smooth it for the rendering at the end.

And if you're talking about a poly scene and not a single poly character, you can hide things in layers and pull different items or groups of items up when you need them.

Thanks guys. Your always helpful. I might just be joining the Polygon Modeling ranks.

So far, from what i see, Sub D's are pretty unstable, Poly's are great in most occasions, and Nurbs... well i'm bias to nurbs because ive used them for ages. (love them, great challenge).

And I'd just like to take a little moment to say... Thanks to SM and all it's affiliates. This site rocks, and I just felt that all you guys could use a little pat on the back so to speak.

here's my latest try, it combines all of the model formats and techniques that i know into one. Only problem i got is the high poly count at the end ,10k, and its just the face ouch. although with this technique, this face was done in 2 hours tops. I dont know if i can do anymore modelling with this because its starting to bog down the system. anyone got any suggestions on how to increase the performance?

only smooth it when it's all done.
