Modeling Wii Remote
1 Attachment(s)
I'm trying to model a Wii Remote.
I'm stuck creating the very simplest rounded edge. I've begun with a box and beveled one set of edges. Next I tried beveling the other set of edges, which seems to work, however when I render it looks terrible. Can someone tell me what the proper technique is to create rounded edges on an object? Thanks! |

then I selected the edges

here's the result:

If you're going to bevel, bevel everything at the same time. Don't do it in 2 parts... you should get much better results.

yea but if you look at the model, he's got a large bevel and then a smaller bevel. if he were to do them all at once it wouldn't be faithful to the object

Thanks for the help.
The first advice totally works for even sized bevels. That really helps me: |

However, I'm curious what the solution would be if you wanted a large bevel on the outside and a tighter bevel on the inside. Here's an example of a larger outside curve:

For your model so far you've got a lot of Geo that you donet need, I think that you should look at the basic outlind of your object then make a cube, say 4x4x4 and go from there, trying to keep it simple so that a smoothe would get hte desired effect

Call me anal but I'd still do it at once. The reason being that maya tends to not like crossing a bevelled edge with another bevel. Quite often I've found it gives really unpredicatable results. Manually adjusting afterwards to suit your bevelling requirements is all I can suggest, unless someone knows a better way....

what i found is that if you do your large bevel and then your small bevel and then smooth the object (with one subdivision) it'll take care of the hard edges seen in your render. not sure why, but it does.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Here's a question, with an object like the one above, can I delete the faces, create a new face (so there is just one flat side), and bevel the new edge. I've put arrows by the edge I would want to bevel after recreating the face.
|
well it looks like you're almost there already, why not just give it a shot and see if it works?

Okay. I recreated the face by using the Append Polygon tool. Then I deleted some extra edges, so there was just the one face. I selected all the edges and beveled.
I looked great, but then in the render view there is banding. Did I need more segments? Or am I doing something wrong? Thanks! |
