hey there I am new to this site and I had a question about poly’s
so here is my question

can you trim a poly??? For example lets say you have a poly wall and u want to trim it so that it has a door opening is there a way to do that without extruding ????

Did you try using the cut faces tool or split polygon tool, and then deleting the faces?

Ok I did this and it worked thanx !!! but now the question is, can I extrude the edge so that the sides are solids???? Or what can be done so that I don’t have this below

Just extrude the side edge over and merge the vertices.

Are they supposed to be intersecting to be able to merge the verteces????

What you can do is select one of the vertices (the one you extruded) and hold down the V key, then move it onto the vertex you want to merge it with, then merge.

Yo minymooncr, I think you need a Maya book.

ThatÕs not really that great of advice, try specifying a book. ;)

Mastering Maya 8.5
But mine's the old version 7. It's pretty good.

The video tutorials here are not too bad.
There are also some free ones.

you could also use the append to polygon tool - just select one edge and then the opposite edge.

Hope this helps.

Noooo! :) you don't need booleans to do this - you could, i suppose, but it would give you an unnecessary headache. you should only really use booleans when you have no other choice...

just do as jr who said and extrude and merge, or try using the append to polygon tool.

what is wrong with booleans?
