HI i need a a converter that would let me convert shoert movies that are avi to .tiff(picture files) or any other file maya live is compatible with. thanks

You can use virtual dub. Open the video file in virtual dub, put in the range you want to turn into an image sequence, then go to file, save as image sequence then you're all done.

Virtual dub is free, by the way.
