The Skinny On Three Point Lighting

Well, as a few of you have seen, I've been posting like crazy to this list. I'm dying to soak up all the knowledge I can in this world we call Maya. This time out, I would like to start a thread about three point lighting.

How do you guys do it? Could someone explain to me in color crayon (in the simplest terms) how you guys use it in everyday work, on the job, etc? What is the intensity you usually use? For a darker scene in, say, a room, what are the intensities for each of the lights and what colors would you suggest? How about the placement of the lights in regards to the camera in each scene? I think my scene so far looks good but I know something has to be missing. I appreciate your help!

I don't have enough points to download the file. It's okay though. LOL! (snivel snivel) I'll get it figured out eventually. ;) (Not being a smart alec... just being silly...)
