Texturing issue

I am trying to put the below texture onto a face but everytime i do as you can see the results do not look like what they are supposed to any help appreciated.

It hasnt, i have just watched your texture basics tutorial which was very good and now i know i have to UV map it, but i dont know are there any good tutorials on UV mapping you know of?
