How do you people make sky?

Hello!
I know this is stupid question, but I will try to make a scene ina near future and I need to know how do people usualy make sky in the animations? Are you using a sky texture (if so, how), or do you make it with particles, or is there any other way? Sorry again if this sounds stupid, but I would like to know.

well, i just figured out how to use mental ray to make smoke fog and clouds so im working with that right now. took me long enough to figure it out.

do you believe that you have to set the SIZE of the cloud molecules in mental ray???

well, background...kinda...but i am thinking of making a "3d clouds" with particles. Well, lets say as background. What now?
