HELP WANTED:
Hey guys, who wants to help a fellow SM'er out? I'm need a bunch of pieces of junk modeled. Not junky models, but pieces of junk like crushed cars, oil drums, trash, etc. Simple stuff, just a lot of it. I can't pay anyone for it, but what I can offer is a copy of the project with your name in the credits for what you contributed. So, this is really a "work-for-footage" type of deal.
See, the thing is, the deadline is winding down and I still have a lot to do with this project, mainly with the characters. I can still achieve the same goal without the junk, but it would work so much better with it, seeing as how my story takes place in a junk yard. They don't have to be detailed, they don't have to look great. Just a simple mesh with maybe a texture if you feel like going that far. If not, I can texture them. So, do you feel up to it? If not, that's kewl, I don't blame you for not wanting to work for free. But if you want something kewl for your reel, then email me and I'll fill ya in on the details. I've attached a scene from it to give you an idea of what I'm doing. Thanks. Test.mov 1.39MB |
wow man, kewl movie!
I'd love to help you out with the junk, but the problem is, well... I suck at maya:( If only I hadn't stopped with it the last month. sry man. (btw, it's not because of the no-money-deal, really!) |
Sorry, I can't help, but I can give moral support :)
Looks great!!! Have some juice! Some ideas(you have probably already thought about them): -The Beetle definitely needs dust trails. -How about the Beetle blowing some smoke. We all know BMW's blow ALOT of smoke :p -When the machines put there feet/pincers down, puffs of dust come up. -Maybe when the first machine climbs over the hill, it knocks a boulder off or knocks some dirt down...to show interaction with the terrain. Or maybe one of the legs/pincers smashes through something. Just some suggestions :D |
that animation is sweeeeeet!! very impressive! and if I knew some more adjectives I would throw them in right now!
how long does it take to render something like that? did you model/animate the whole thing yourself? how much time have you invested? It must have taken quite some time! |
whoops :) I forgot to mention I will help out any way I can:D

d24e: No problem. Thanks for the reply. But really, it doesn't have to look great. It's junk. How hard can that be? Plus, it'll give you some practice. But that's kewl if ya can't. :D
Vampus: All that is in the works. What u saw is just a test render for action and timing. No effects have been implemented yet. As you can see, it's going to need quite a few effects in it... another big load of work to do. That's why I need help on the little things. : howardporter: Email me for details at davebaer@bellsouth.net - otherwise, just start making JUNK. :D Pieces of junk is great, but piles of junk would be better. Whatever you choose to do, go for it. |
hey man, I decided to give it a go anywayz. But what exactly do you mean by 'junk'? I'll try seperate objects, no textures since I can't do that yet.
can you give me some hints plz? |

I just created some stuff I found on 'fallout tactics' screenshots. They use mostly boxes, barrels, wooden plates and those curved metal plates.
I hope you can do something with it, let me know if it helped plz. http://www.d2lodshop.com/shibbystuff/junk.gif |
Perfect! That's the kind of stuff I'm looking for. :D
Oh... I guess I should have mentioned this. Please include a text file with your real names, unless you want the credits to show your SM names. :P  |
