Newbie in Maya
 

Hi im new in maya, and this probably is a stupid question but anyways..what is mental ray and raytracing? are they the same thing or different? im not sure...but can someone tell me that would be helpful. :confused:

Mentalray is the third party (not made by Autodesk) renderer that has come with Maya since version 5.

Raytracing is a method of producing reflections, refractions and shadows in your rendered images.

Both Mentalray and the Maya Software Renderer can render with raytracing.
