Stwert -Horror Challenge

I've got an idea for this competition, but I can't explain it fully until it's underway. I'm going to start with animation to make sure it will work, then I'll move to modelling.

My goal is to get into medical and scientific animation, so I'm going to work from some medical references to get a realistic skull with some addons. Looking forward to it. Thankfully we have two months, cause this will definitely take me a while.

My scene will take place in a room with just a couple pieces of furniture and you.

Come on stwert what are you doing?...........dave

stwert 19-08-2010 04:13 PM

Well progress is a bit slower than I was expecting, but I'll get some progress up in the next day or so. The original plan might change a bit, but we'll see.

Yeah, that didn't really answer anything did it... haha.

daverave 19-08-2010 09:19 PM

Are you thinking of going into politics.............LOL dave

Alright alright... here's some progress.

I'm doing something of a (hopefully medically accurate) skeleton for the main character, plus some addons (ooh more mystery!). I don't think I'll do all 200 odd bones, but most of them will be in my scene.

Humerus:

Radius and ulna:

Lumbar vertebrae:

Wireframe and UV (that was a pain):

My relatively slow and little progress has been somewhat due to the fact that those latter bones have been causing me a bit of soreness, so I don't like sitting at the computer much more than I have to (i.e. work).

I'm realizing how tedious organic modelling can be, so I'm seriously thinking of putting all these into mudbox (don't have z) to get more realistic detail and texture. So we'll see how that goes. I learned that one of the TS3 characters was sculpted in mudbox, so I'm a bit more of a fan now :p

Hope that's enough info to keep you happy for a little bit bullet and dave, haha.

I should say that these are still WIPs, so for those doctors out there that are going to tell me that the vertebrae articulations aren't accurate... I know, I'm working on it.

daverave 20-08-2010 10:04 PM

vertebrae articulations aren't accurate............Doc dave......sorry could not help myself

gster123 20-08-2010 10:14 PM

Ive modeled vertebreae and may they seem easy on the first look but a right pain to get right!

Nice going

bullet1968 21-08-2010 12:54 AM

Nice going mate!!!!

No they arent accurate....Doc bullet....bahahaha with ya dave..tee heee.

WTF are those UV's?? I have seen that before...all grids and numbers...if you have time one day, please explain.

Let me know how you go with mudbox, I download Z trial and jeeeezzzzzz it looks a bitch. I wont have time to learn it so my Bull will have to be done the hard way.

cheers bullet

Oh it's just an alternative to regular black and white checks, makes it easier to see the seams and you get more spatial info. There's textures on the web, just grabbed one somewheres.

Mudbox is very straightforward from what I know so far, and the navigation is same as maya, so a bit easier to jump into from maya I think. I'll let you know how it goes.

bullet1968 21-08-2010 01:13 AM

sweet mate...one more Q guru...how the hell do you get multiple pics up there...are you cut/past from word?

cheers bullet

stwert 21-08-2010 01:16 AM

No, I've got an imageshack account, just upload there, then copy the "forum link" without details, essentially an [ IMG]http://imageshack.whatever[ /IMG] (without spaces) link and you're done!

bullet1968 21-08-2010 01:22 AM

ahhhhhhhhh thank you...I will try that in future.

cheers bullet

Mayaniac 21-08-2010 12:43 PM

Nice start.

I'm sure you and tweety could talk all day about the woes of modeling a skeleton.

stwert 21-08-2010 07:29 PM

Haha, yeah I saw tweety's skeleton, it was well done... not trying to copy, but I may check it out to peer at some topology :p
