Renderable dynamic Text??

Hi,

Can anybode tell me how to make dynamic text in 3d. It is so often used in music videos and I love it.

I would like to create i.e. a text which dynamicly displays the distance of two points. But I want to render this.

In maya I only could creat a static text, but is there any chance to change it dynamically or in an animation?

Or should I do this in an other program?
Sorry for the bad Englich, I'm from Germany... =)

to show the effect goto

in the video at 0:33 the text fields...

Perhaps somebody could help me with my problem... please ....

Sure, but please only make one post per question:)
That way our boards do not get too cluttered.

Ok, the effect that you are talking about it done by tracking 3d data to a 2D camera on a compositing application like After Effects or Shake.

It is the same effect used in the opening title sequence for "Panic Room".
As the camera moves and pans arounc the city, text is tracked to the parts of the scene to make it look as if the text was shot there.

...panic room may be a bad example, as most of those shots where partly all 3d anyway, but my point is that the effect is called "Motion Tracking".

There is a module in Maya called "LIVE" that allows you to do this.

Also, there are many tutorials regarding tracking in compositing, as well as 3d.

The right folks to ask this type of question in the 2d world, would be Paul at www.VFXTalk.com

For the 3d world, we would use LIVE, BAYOJU (sp?), AFTER EFFECTS, by exporting our Maya camera data directly to these applications, allowing pixel-perfect composites, and tracks:)

Good luck!

Oh thanks ragecgi. Really great of you.
Sorry for the multiple threads... I won't do it in the future.

You helped me alot. Now I don't have to waste my time any longer to build this effects in a 3d application.

I'm gonna try this motion tracking. Oh I'm excited if it works....

Thanks
Chris
