sorry about the previous threadwaste but i've managed to get my computer to do what i want it to and would really appreciate any constructive criticism of my first attempt at colouring using uv maps.

Nice the wood texture is looking good, also very good render :D

Billy_Cat 26-09-2004 05:42 PM

the wood seems a little too shiny

Element_Khaos 27-09-2004 03:06 AM

i think the wood should actually have more shininess to make it more obvious that its lacquered or something. also the grain on the wood should match up in the front, ie: horizontal shouldnt run into diagonal i think. other than that really good work

Alan 27-09-2004 08:23 AM

the render is fine but take off the reflective floor it looks awful! The laquered wood look is cool though. What are you planning on doing with the model? animation perhaps?

happymat27 27-09-2004 06:10 PM

thanks for the input folks,

the picture is not yet finished so the floor is going to be changed anyway, the shiny one was just for a quick reference, I was thinking of bare floorboards. Also a few more toys are to be added, walls and skirting board too. I will make posts as and when they are done.

Thanks again for your help, all of it has been taken on board.

Mat.

Looks good. I like how the wood is. But I find the same patterine on all the tyres. Maybe varry the texture a bit for each one.

I've tried to make it a night time scene but i'm not too sure it works, any suggestions?
Cheers, Mat.

Element_Khaos 29-09-2004 11:12 AM

maybe a very dim ambient light and a bright spot light for the moon

Alan 29-09-2004 11:19 AM

Ambient lights are bad they flatten everything out. Use a strong directional light and then use points/spots for some bounce light (not a lot though as the moon is weak compared to the sun). Make it very contrasty so thatthere is a big difference bewteen light and dark in the image and tint your lights blue (It's not how it is in real life but it's what makes everyone think it's at night)

Cheers to everyone for their comments, you've all been totally helpful. Here's my next attempt before I have to go to work this morning. Thanks again,

Mat

Alan 30-09-2004 08:27 AM

there's still not enough contrast in it. You need to have some really dark shades in there. It's too similar a blue throughout. But you see what I mean about it feeling more like night already?:)
