Maya's "ghetto renderer"

I've accidentally run it a couple of times, but I'm curious :

Does anyone know how to run the cheap renderer? You know, the one that basically renders your animation from your current viewport in the wireframe view? It makes the render INCREDIBLY fast and makes it a SNAP to figure out timing.

Any help, much appreciated. (also, help on keyframing a skeleton position without pressing S on each bone w/o IK'd help too)

its your hardware render buffer. Its in Window>Rendering Editers>Hardware Render Buffer.

full details in the doc's about using it.. its pretty much like the batch render.

Window > Playblast is another option for testing animations.

If you don't want to manually key each joint by hand, you could use a character set containing all the joints that are animating. When you have the character set selected, pressing 's' will keyframe all members of the set.
