March chalenge - cb8rwh - Noobie

Ello,

decided to give this a shot. Let's hope I finish it this time.

I am intending to model the Iron Giant (the one from the film of the same name). Can I do this or does it have to be an original piece??

cheers

well I have started the head - I am havin difficulty around the eyes - how the hell do you make smooth circular eyes on a curved surface (polys) - puzzling me :(

edit: DOH!! just found out a method

Hey, great start! I was thinking that you were modelling gutsman until you said it was the robot guy off that movie :D. you could do a boolean subtraction to get the hole of the eyes, or you could do what you have done, then select the verts around the eye.. and use the scale tool and move tool to make it look like a circle :). Keep it up :D.

BTW.. i changed your title name.. I spell noobie as newbie too.. but everyone else has went with noobie and it has been around for a while so i just made that change :). Best of luck.

heh heh, looks like the robot from Iron Giant or Diesel Sweeties. :)

Nice.

Well started again :)

Looks a bit better this time - at least the eyes are actually
round(ish) :)

MtMcK - yeah it is the robot from the iron giant :) well supposed to be anyway

M - thanks for that boolean - totally forgot about those :)

ello all,

well started over again - i can't get to grips with when to refine the model and I get too bogged down with faces - trying to keep it pretty low poly count for as long as poss

comments welcome

evening all,

well have done some more - just about completed the upper body base - needs detail adding. had a few problems with mirroring geometry - sometimes worked fine other times it didn't transfer to the -ve side of x - i tried changing the pivot location to the 0 of the x axis but no luck - eventually got them placed by duplicating.

I am really enjoying this!!

hey, good progress - and nice "details" too

Wow, you really caught me off guard with that last render! Awesome job!!!! Now, are you going to end off with that blocky look (you can see the polys).. or are you going to smooth it or soften it? Well, in any case, great job so far... i really need to catch up to all of you guys!.
