Sorry, I'm new and I just want to ask, if you would please comment my picture. I'm thinking to take part in some competition, but the others are very good. Maybe some other time. But please look my picture, I just want to know if it's good start perhaps in 'realism' competition.:o

Nice start mate.. Try pushing back teh wall a bit.. will give the over all piece some depth...

Good stuff=)

that's REALLY good, like the water especially. Have you used the normal maya renderer or mental ray? Only reason I say is you should use some caustics - would look vry realistic then (not that it doesn't already :) )

If you use the normal maya renderer there is a caustics plugin knocking around - probably find it on AW site or highend3d

but the caustic plugin only works with 4.0 and not 4.5 .. I really miss it.

10x for the replys. I'm using normal maya render and I'll see what I can do whit the caustics plug-in. After this I'm 90% sure that I'll be in the next competition.

hmmm... you used Glu3d for it right... can see it with a glimpse.. anyway... good start... use the caustics plugin for more realism

Was that done with RealFlow

I don't use plug-in to make water. Those are just simple directional emmiter and particles with blobby surface. I found the caustics plug-in and now I'm trying to make it more realistic.

Is the competition still running?

Here is my final image. I don't want to fix it any more. I'll wait the next competition.

Hey, that really looks nice :D. The water reflections are great... good job :).

Very realistic for the glass hardness(amount of refraction), and i love the use of blobby surface. I didn't know it was so powerful! Just not very complex.

can someone explain me the function of the caustic plug-in?

Quotation:

"Caustics are an addition to your rendering that calculates rays of light starting at a light source (like real light), which can be reflected, refracted, bounced off mirrors, or concentrated by a lens, accurately simulating more of the ways real light can move through a scene."

Some resources -on caustics- which might be usefull ...
