using alphas

I am having some trouble with some stickers I have placed on a bike. I am trying to make the space that surrounds the sticker transparent. In order to do this I know you have to make the surrounding area black but all that happens is the bit that I want to be transparrent is now black. I am saving my textures in targa format and ticking the alpha channel check box. Any ideas to resolve this problem are much appreciated.

make sure the alpha is designated to make transparant the areas you want. White is opaque and black is transparant.

Just to make sure I clarify, the alpha channel is seperate from the actual texture. Just making the area on the texture black won't affect the alpha.

if you watch mtmckinley's free tutorial on alpha channels you should be all set.

from here click video training, free tutorials, and you should see it.
