Newbs first try

Hi all,
I'm new here, and new to Maya. This is my first post and my first project. It is modeled entirely in Polys with no conversion or anything. Any questions, comments, crits, etc, would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Penguin

i think that the lower jaw should be mover back a little i recon. good work! :D

Edit: u using any reference images?

Edit again :P: also i think that you should work on the jaw bone

penguin.steel 14-08-2005 05:04 PM

Hey Matt, thanks for the suggestions. Here is that reference pic (please don't laugh at my crappy drawing:blush: The character is actually one from an animation I have been kicking around in my head. So, I wanted him to have a comic book feel, hence the exagerated jaw. Could you be a little more specific about what you mean by "work on the jaw bone"? Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Penguin

wud u post a wire pick of ur model before u mirror and smooth it? will be easier to explain then

basically, if you follow your jawbone with your finger it goes up to you ear lobe, and then at the back of your head it smoothly attatches to your neck, like on your drawing, on the render u posted it looks like the jaw goes way round the back of the head, maybe post a pick of the back of the head aswell looking towards the back of the guys ear

I already posted that wireframe. It's about 6 posts up. But I see what you mean about the jawline. I'm not at home right now but as soon as I get there I will post some shots of the side and the back of the head.
Thanks
Penguin

Ok, So here are those pics of the wireframe and the jawline. The first two are of the original and the final two are after some tweeking. I saw what you meant by the jawline going back too far. Thanks for pointing that out. It definately didn't look right. Good eye :-) Please let me know what you think of the fix. I know that the model still needs some tweeking specially around the mouth area. I also need to finish the inside of the mouth. But for now I think I'm gonna focus on trying to texture it. I've never textured before so it could produce some interesting results. I'll be sure to post them.
