Airplane noses

G'day mayamaniacs and Merry Kringle/Happy New Year to you all from Oz,

I am fairly new to Maya but have some of the basics sorted..question....I have been trying to draw airplanes....passenger types.....and although I can sort of get the nose of the airplane right....there must be a better way.....all those compound curves and circular sections are driving me to distraction to try and get right.....every other bit of the airplane is straight forward but to look like a Boeing the nose has to be right.....can anyone offer suggestions?????
Does anyone have any maya airplane models they'd like to share?

Happy holidays to all

Not sure if it will help but here is a link to a video tut of someone making a plane, it requires free registration but may help you to see how they do it, I have not had a chance to sign up for it so not sure if it still streams correctly etc but it may help.

If you working in polygons you might want to use smooth proxy under Polygons / Smooth proxy and set you subdivisions to 2. Then go to your sub menu to shading and select Use Default Material. You will learn alot about how you can model using polygons with smooth proxy. Also play around with the split polygon tool that should help.

Hi Harris,

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.......thanks for your suggestions......I hadn't thought about using the split poly tool and will give that a go.....I have had some success using booleans to remove the windshield and then dragging the edges...this works but seems to take forever....I find it a bit frustrating to be able to get all the other bits fairly right quickly but then have to spend a lot of time to get the nose only so so.......many thanks for your input with this.....

Hi Bill,

Apologies as I didn't see the Bill until after I replied to Harris.

If we can transact emails I will send you a copy of the work in progress. I haven't worked out if this can be effected thru this site...but I have a yahoo account <hunchyau@yahoo.com>....I appreciate the security issues here....drop me a note if you like.

Many thanks for the good wishes.
