PFX and Mental Ray in Maya 4.5

Is it at all possible to use Paint FX with mental ray in maya 4.5?

I've heard you can convert PFX to polys and it will work but I've had no luck so far.

I believe it is not possible. PFX to polys was implemented in Maya 5...
