Looking for a teacher of sorts...
 

i was on this website at one time last year.. maybe back in 06, back then i was way out of control and easily ticked off. Still am but i act like an adult now... Sad to say while over looking the post about my "WTF STOP DELETING MY THREADS" Post, i see how bad my spelling was. Still kinda is bad because i have problems with end grammer, punctuation and stuff, anyway. I'll get to the point, I'm looking for some one who is willing to teach me how to use maya, I'm using the free version of Maya PLE. The one you download from auto desk, no i didn't steal it as i once said i would because i've grown up from that...

But i am looking for some one who is willing to teach me how to use the program, i mean if any one is interested. I have so many ideas floating around in my head and i have them down as concept work, but that's just about it. I would like to know if some one could teach me how to use the program...

I wont be much of a teacher but I do suggest trying out the free tutorials (dog and franky) here on simply maya. They're a good start to get the basic idea of how to bring a concept drawing to 3d. From there you can practice and learn more with other tutorials. I wish you luck on finding someone to teach you. Also glad to see you back here and with a better attitude. Everyone here is always willing to help out as long as you are willing to be helped.

Ok, now i have another question. Witch would be the free tutorials for the maya PLE and witch would be the tutorials for the regular maya PLE, so i don't get those two confused...

those are the free simply maya videos, they'll work for any version of maya you are using
And to my knowledge maya ple is free there isn't a ple available for sale, if you buy it, it will not have the watermark that the ple version has and I'm sure there will be a few other things you get with the one you buy but I'm not sure, never used the ple version.

Well, i don't know how to use this program and every thing I've been doing is by trial and error... honestly this is quite the task, but i mean i don't even know how to use the buttons but I'm watching...

I thoroughly recommend this book for all beginners...I used it back in the Maya 2.5 and 3 days, back in the day when I was a wee lad!

Its worth just to sit down by yourself and go at your own pace. I think if you are asking someone to teach you then they will want paying for their time for sure, I know I would. the free tutorials are cool here but Im not overly sure how basic they are in terms of teaching from scratch.

the book will take you thru the tools one at a time yet combine them in such a way that you'll use them over a series of projects. basic extrusions through to modelling and texturing

for 44bucks its a small price to pay for some seriously good and basic knowledge

press F1!!!!!!!! I learnt through the help files at first, its a great starting point and of course free, takes you through from the very first time you open Maya.

yeah, there all good starts ( i can recommend the book)
there are some maya tutorials at www.tutorialized.com but there not really for complete noobs

I would go for F1 first, and follow the tutorials there first, then jump onto the Franky and Dog tutorials that Kurt did. Those tutorials are basic, but you would still need a basic grasp of the UI.

Then jump into the books, as some can be difficult and won't truely explain everything, for the beginer. Saying that the book Jay pointed out is very good and I also bought this book for Version 7.

Hehe, I got that book for version 6, and I didnt rate it at all, one of the best books that I've come accross is Maya the Complete Reference (think theres a version 8 one out now) really good, goes over everything you could need, including some compositing in after effects too.

Don't overwhelm me you guys, as to what i should get to start on. I'm fallowing the basic tutorials on youtube right now.. so please take it slow heh i dont want to short out right now :-p

i am having a hard time trying to find the "Select vertex" part of the UI.

And the guy said make sure its in the component mode. But how do i maker sure its in the right mode?

There are a couple ways, the top image is part of the status line and the bottom one is just right clicking the model.
