Please someone help, merging vertices problem

after merging two pieces of geometry together I get a big crease in my geometry and unsure on how to remove the giant crease from the merged polys?

Chuck a picture(PrtSc) up mate so we can see what you mean. Without a pic I will guess...you have merged multiple verts?? in one go?? If you have go to these and change the thresh hold. If I am right it will be merging verts that shouldnt be...checked your vert count if you have it up in the HUD or and go X-ray to see what funkiness you have happening.

yeah, do what bullet suggested, get a screen shot (if you're on a mac then cmd+shift+4 then spacebar then click on the maya window to take a snapshot of it, the picture appears on your desktop. otherwise as bullet said PrtScn then ctrl+v in MSPaint or other picture editing program then crop it for windows)

but a crease? not sure what you mean. perhaps you merged the vertices and you've a funny combination of soft and hard edges?

Hi,

as said a picture would definately help, but it sounds as though you may have some internal faces (faces inside the the model, on the inner part of the verts you have merged) or you have some normals facing the wrong way,

cheers

This can happen, its not unheard of, I get it occasionally when I creating character heads - if you have a crease after merging. basically move the verts until the crease is no more - its that simple - you could use the artisan tool too to smooth it out.

you could also do an instance of the model and line the verts up as best you can then merge them and then tweak as needed. Theres no magic answer, just get in there and pull them about.

If you have extra faces that have been merged then delete them, that should take the crease out and again you may need to re merge.

no need for the image

cheers
