animate extrude path
 

I’ve been having some difficulty animating motion paths, extruded paths and extruded faces. I realize you must be asked this question hundreds of times but I’ve not found any solutions to my problems. The basic thing I’d like to do is extrude and animate a square along a curved spline path. I’ve tried this with extrusion, motion paths extruded faces and sweep animation with bad results.
The best results have been with motion paths. The problem is when using a square the square travels down the path and periodically flips, flops and twists. The problem gets worse with more complex curve paths.
When using extrude the shape gets distorted even though I get it quite close and then I have no luck animating it properly.
