Camel
Well I'm starting a project, it will be a long one but right now I'm just focusing on the camel. I plan to do my first short animated scene using this camel. Right now though I'm having a bit of trouble with the head. I have the basics of the body, legs, and neck but the head is giving me problems. I must also note that I haven't really done organic modeling and what I have done hasn't been too good.
Any help on modeling a camels head would be greatly appreciated. Any tutorials that could help me with this? Even a horse head or something with a head like a camel. Here's just a non-smoothed and a smoothed screen shot. I didn't include wireframes on the head because theres really nothing but the very basic shape of it. http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/1...othed01ft7.jpg http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/6...othed01ct6.jpg |
Cool
I dont think you need help modeling this as you're there with your blocked out shape very well, just get plenty of images of camels off google and get the detail in. Obviously post wires etc so if somebody spots something out of the ordinary you can take the advice edit the mesh Nice start so far... Jay |
Thanks jay, but I'm having a hard time figuring out the geometry flow. Maybe I need to just keep attempting, trial and error.
I didn't do any more work on this model last night but I did take a wireframe screen for reference http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/1...frame01va5.jpg |
just going through google and looking at camels and I don`t think the overall shape needs much in the way off tweaking. looking at these refs I would say the back legs a little off, but its early days

thanks tweety, I've got quite a bit of reference images already, but these sure wont hurt to use. thanks for the extra pics! Hopefully I can get this looking better.
I know I'm going to fix the hind legs before I move onto the head. Thanks again |
Nice start,
I'm surprised (considering your moniker) that you've not attempted a camel yet! Keep at it, Mat. |
yeah my plan from the start has been to do a camel, I've done tutorials, a few things of my own and I've finally decided it's time to put myself to the test and finally make it. My plan with this model is to create a desert scene, most likely egyptian, and turn it into a 15-30 second animation.

Good luck to you :)

thank you
So far this is what I've got with the head. Any ideas, comments, crits, questions... let me know. I'm stopping here to wait for a couple comments on the progress before I go any further. Wireframe of head, and smoothed head http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/4...ehead01uw7.jpg http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/854...dhead01vg4.jpg Sorry about the pic size this time, I forgot to resize on the upload, will be more cautious about it next time. |
I haven't done a whole lot to it, kind of feel like I messed up somewhere on the head and don't know exactly what to do, here are some screens, wireframes of head front and side, wireframe of body, smoothed body, then smoothed body on a badly textured sandy ground.

Just a suggestion, on your smooth, turn Òkeep borderÓ off. ItÕll get rid of those nasty vertices the are popping out in the middle.

thanks JR I was wondering what was making my smooth not look smooth.
been struggling a little bit with the feet, got the front one close to being done. I'll see what I can get done tonight and post a few more pictures. |
I've been studying up on how to create sand using realflow, I have the digital tutors video that shows how to create the sandman but it's not doing what I need it to do to the ground, the effects just aren't working. Anyone that has any ideas of what I should do so I could make this sand blow across the ground? At the moment realflows sand creature effect isn't the same as my sandy ground effect.
and comments on the camel itself would be good, does it need more geometry around the mouth and eyes? Any help, critics, suggestions are always extremely helpful. |
I came up with a new idea after a couple hours of searching google.
Visor>Fluid Examples>Blowing Surface Snow now I just have to figure out how to edit this to look like sand. hopefully this will be easier than realflow. edit: Wow, I'm having a real hard time getting a sand flow going the way I want. I don't know if I should be doing maya fluids, maya dynamics, realflow, or what... maybe I'll have to forget about the sand blowing idea, although I think it would look cool if I knew how to do it. |
Nice job man, you've got the good basic shape of the camel ...
Crits are that you could smooth a couple of hard edges plus start to add detail, that gives a lot of life to organic things, |
