importing textures from Maya
 

I have a basic lambert and I want to import a texture onto it..wehn I go to file, then go to the file, it says it cannot import file even though it is a jpeg..the drop-own list days only iff/ *.* or best guess, but it still wont import it..

so basically I cannot import any outside files..how come??
