Earth Texture
Hi!
Does anyone know where to find high-resolution images of the earth? Once, there was a link at Zoorender.com to a site where one could download such images for money and one single file for free, but I can't remember the address, and I can't find the link at zoorender anymore.... But maybe this wasn't the best at all... Please tell me where to find such high-res pictures. Best Regards Markuz |

thanx for the link, looks interesting, but at first sight I do not see any images of the HOLE earth...
Perhaps I oversee something? |
I got my hi-res earthmaps from there..don't remember exactly where from there, but they were huge. One had to ask permission to download them. They're royalty free though as long as you give credit to nasa...

oh well....:D I haven't said anything:D...
HOLY SHIT... They even got 400MB images!!: http://visibleearth.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/viewrecord?11656 Thanx again! |
Ah, I see. I can't download the very huge one. How to get this permission?
|
just email them...but be prepared to wait for the answer ;)
|
Wow... Is it possible for Maya to use such a big texture as a displacement-texture? Or to use it with the sculpt-surfaces tool?
|
sure it's possible but i think it's not wise. better use a lower res version for testing and the hi-res only for the final render...
|
ok, thank you. I mailed nasa... Have to see how long it takes for an answer.
Do you know the link to a grey-scale map of the hole earth which indicates the height? The link I posted i.e. is just a real-color picture of the earth and is useless... Must be anywehere, I just can't find it... |
No, I couldn't find a suitable bump/displace map but I created one from the color images in photoshop. It's not accurate but looks convincing enough (at least for the purpose I used it).
