Whats the best way to create a beard in Maya Complete?

As complete doesn't have fur i would probably hang several strips from his face then texture these with a transparency map aswell as color to look like clumps of hair. You can then animated these strips to move like his beard would.

If your in Maya 6:
Hit the #8 key to open paint effects (other methods available)
In it's menu bar select brush > get brush
Open the folder [Hair]
Not to shabby for Maya Complete!
