BT logo effect

Hi all,

I have a stupid question (as Im a beginner so bare with me) How can I make a circle that then has circles drawn onto the sides that are semi transparent? Simlar to the BT logo.

I can make a circle and thats my limit, boy has someone got their work cut out for them lol.

I believe that there is a drawing tool in Maya PLE but I dont know how to use it nor do I know how to set the circle to transparent and only make the coloured circles visable.

Any help you can offer would be great,

Cheers
Shane

Nothing in there really but thanks for the thought. there some stuff on rendering and other things but nothing on painting on the circle.

Is it going to just sit still or do you want the circles to rotate around the sphere?

well i thought of it being static but now that you mention it that would make an awlsome effect. Can you actully do that then?

I am doing it for a work project to show them how good maya is (trying to get them to get the full maya for me) but I dont know enough about it to do what I want and they wont get it untill I show them what it can do. Kind of a joke i guess lol

I take it you know what I mean then by the BT logo then?!

Step 1

Create six poly spheres. The for each one of those create i poly cylinder the size of one of the discs and line it up like in the picture. The click Polygons>Booleans>Intersection.

Step 3

You'll want to move this disc so that it lines up with a sphere created in the middle of the grid, you can then press insert to move the pivot to the middle of the grid (hold x while dragging).

Step 4

Repeat for the other 5 discs.

Assign Blinn materials with the transparency on 50%. As the pivots are in the middle you can then set keys to rotate them 360 degrees.
