Edit Mesh>Bridge not workin'

while following the given tutorials that come with Maya PLE is encountered a possible glitch (or basic mis-hap) that is while trying to bridge two edges (both have equals edges - 5 on each) the vertexes seem to not connect with the right ones. Basically they are crisscrossing in different directions. Below is the pictures of what I get and what I would like to get:

:headbang:

What I am getting:

And this is what I should be getting:

If you could help in anyway that would be great. Possibly a fix to this or I'll even be happy with a way around it. Thank you very much!

check and see if the normals for one of the parts is reversed.

i remember reading something about the normals. It said to "display normals" which I tried via the correct commands, but nothing appeared. Plus how would I go about reversing the normals? I attempted through what the tutorial said, but I may have done it incorrectly because the same issue was produced

what version of maya are you using? 8+ moved things around.

In 8.5:

Display > Polygons > Face Normals.

If one part is facing inward and the other outward, select inward facing part and:

Normals > Reverse
