Using maya for video effects?

Hi there

I am an amateur video editor, but i am getting a bit board with lame transitions and stuff.

Basically I want to start adding my own effects to video and I'm wondering if I can do this in maya.

For Example: I saw a recent music video where rose pebbles were raining from the sky (I'm sorry i can't remeber what video it was or who the artist was), but it looked really good.

I would presume this kind of thing would be rendered in a 3D program and then super imposed somehow?

Can you tell me if this kind of thing can be done in maya and possibly point me to some tutorials which are along these lines. If you think Maya is not the right application for this type of thing, then do you know what might be.

Thanks in advance for your valued assistance!

That is what Maya's main purpose is for. Once yo have your render, you composite into your video using after affects, or whatever.

You should also look at what Maya can do in the way of match-moving (using the Maya-Live plugin).

There's a few examples in the demo reel that you can download from www.robingraham.com

Thanks for your quick reply.

I actually managed to find out what video it was that i saw, it was "Ronan Keating - She believes in me".

I will have a look at that maya-live plugin that was mentioned.

On the mac, rather then using after effects, would i use Apple Shake?

At the moment i am using final cut pro.

Thanks again for you help!!!
