MudBox
Hi Guys
Theres a preview of Mudbox out now (the alternative Zbrush software) Link:http://www.vfxworld.com/?sa=adv&code...ticles&id=2957 Cheers Jay |
sweet, I think im going to go play in my mud box now :p
|
It might be out by end of this year or early next.
siggraph should have a demonstration hopefully. beta testing right now. looks really promising. |
Hey Vlad
Yeah a few people are, have you checked out Stahlbergs model at CGSociety in the hardcore modelling challenges? He's done Vetruvian Man with it. Not bad for a first go either... Cheers Jay |
I can't wait!
I've played with Zbrush a few times but never really got into it. The workflow was anything but intuitive which is ironic because the interface felt so simplistic. I like how the interviewees kept bringing up their previous usage of Maya and how "jumping in" has never been so easy. Bring on the Mud Box! |
they say the interface usage (pan zoom dolly brushes etc) is exactly the one of maya, so yes it looks like a zbrush killer (to me) in the displacement/normalmap generation arena... and maybe a great texture helper too... lets see its price and when it turns out...
|
Well it wont be a Z killer for sure, because Pixologic have released Zbrush 2.5 a Siggraph with some killer additions that quite frankly are worth the price of a Maya licence in my opinion, its that good.
How about paint on your textures without uvs and extract mesh from mesh....plus now it has the ability to do everything in 3d space instead of a 2d style Check out the link, download the movies and wet your pants http://www.pixolator.com/zbc/showthr...471#post292471 Mudbox wont be a Z killer as such because both parties will be watching each other and making each one more unique, in the long runtherefore benefiting the user... Cheers Jay |
damm that new zb looks even better than before:attn: :attn:

nice... really nice the topology/transfer thingie...
the mudboxers promise the layers functionality too? anyways i (hate to) have to admit i have become a hardcore interface bitch... and the one i know best is maya´s :D (and yes autodesk adquiring maya was actually bad news by that standard) you know, what were getting presented to is nice, and ive actually been bitching for all that functionalty over the last 2.5 years... what id like to see now (as then) is a program with maya´s basic interface and features plus those of motionbuilder + zbrush/mudbox + gelato (more precisely what it promised than what it delivered or even better some kind of nice cutting edge hardware renderer) + POSER + VUE d´espirit + modo+ bodypaint + illustrator/painter/photoshop/premiere/aftereffects + flash-like tech +a HUGE library of premade bits and thingies easy to mix, match and alter procedurally. And a deep exploration/adobe bridge to suitably browse and clasify all that stuff. That is what i want: the whole mature and ultimate "all-in-one, best than the others" package, with an artist friendly common interface philosophy and a smart transfer between modules easy as one click oh almost forgot with advanced mass AI and phisics support and plugable with eclipse, and some other XHTML, ruby and python IDEs, friendly to XML, semantic net and exposing easily and simply all the internal guts, so it has to be open source too.... and, well... etc. etc. etc... like lightning fast and free, or ludicrously cheap... so im gonna hibernate 5-10 years into the future... ;D |

you remember how all this stuff has changed in the last 5 years? and it is just picking speed... :ninja:
we have the tendency to make new tools to make better tools to make new tools... i just want it NOW... :alien: (well now and with the interface i already know!:headbang: ) oh and smart auto LOD, we have a perception treshold and im hoping we get where it is... fast... before i die of old age at least |
