HI! I've just started with maya, and a couple of days ago, I started work on my first real model, which I've pu much work on, the top isn't finished yet, and I've not started texturing og lighting, but you get the idea.. The tower itself seen from under, looks prettymuch like a +. Therefor, I'n gonna copy this tower in 4 pieces, and put them together.
It's suppose to become a model of the tower Orthank, Sarumans Tower in Isengard, of the Lord of the Rings. Comments please:) |

Making good progress, the only thing i'll say at this stage is lighting, it's hard to see some of the detial.
I'll also be interested in seeing a wireframe view of your model. |
As you requested, a couple of wireframe on shaded pics.. I notice that the PC is starting to feel that the model is growing.. Once I copy It 4 times and start, it will surtenly have problems. What kind of machines are you guys running on? I've got a 2.8gHz Pentium with 1GB RAM, and a 256mb Radeon 9600XT card. Should I purhase more RAM?

Nah, you have pleanty of ram. Make sure to delete the history of your model, select your model and go to edit> delete by type> history. BTW nice work :)

Like I said in the beginning, I'm a newbie, and this is my first big model. Whats come apparent to me is that when I duplicate the model, and look to feks rotate it, every of the pieces that I've built it up of, rotate appart from eachother, and therefor i can't, scale the model, because what obviously happens, is that the models scale appart from eachother. I've built it from NURBS, and my question is how can I join all the parts together?
|
select the parts you want to grop and press Ctrl+G (or group in edit menu). Now select one of the parts and then press the up-arrow key. Now you can scale rotate etc.
