I know most of are from US or UK, I know september 11th was a very bad day for all US people, but what I want to say is: America made TALIBAN power when it thought to free Afghanistan at the end of cold war, America gave guns to these son of #?#@# terrosists. (I had friends working in the twin towers).

It is never a shame to protest against a war that is not your own.

A sivilian has much less responisbility than the various participants in a conflict/bad situations (ref to national terrorism and very poor judgments (at best, if not down right reckless) by USA (to mention a big one), so bashing left-wing protesters per se is pretty lame when done this way.

And to use the obvious evil/good in any arrangement, comes to me as very insipid and inane. Disgusting me with what I percieve as semi-religious traits.

Now that appears as a tame notion of ones options in a time like this. A bit semi-religious too. The notion of god used in politics in USA disgust me, as much as the notion of god and allah by terrorists in the middle-east and "way west".

Seems like the notion of a world united; in our need for aggreement, care and most imporantly a mutual trust, is blatantly put aside by special national interests of the state, and semi-philosophical issues and thus lulling the people of the nations in a self rightous feeling, who in the end doesn't really seem villing to object to the ongong high-intensitive armed conflicts in Iraq, and other places.

When I go to a protest march, I demonstrate towards my government. And now in my life, it seems to me that the UN would work, if the constitutive nations of the United Nations could agree to sets og principals, that treats every violation equal, that reponds to every violation in an equal manner, and that they all care for the violated in an equal manner.

Alas I will not DO the job for my governemt, but I will protest when USA and England act as as reckless as they imho do.

There are alternatives I say.

Undseth I understand the points u make and agree with alot u have to say. I can see ur underlying argument about the UN being undermined because of the way the US/UK have, in effect, bypassed the international law they are going to war to protect. To me this also is a worry. No nation should be above the codes of law we live by. So in that respect, Im in total agreement with u. As far as the war itself goes, what I dont agree with several ppl in this discussion about, is their anti-war stance simply because it is war. It is dissmissed as an alternative when, sad as it is to say, it is at times the only thing that will make ppl listen in the world we live in today. There have been a few naive arguments in this thread, but I think most have the same basic desire i.e. to rid the world of Saddam Hussein. Personally, I feel that only forceful action was ever going to be the way to get rid of such a selfish, abhorrent and brutal dictatorial regime in Iraq. I dont imagine any amount of diplomacy or barganing would ever have worked. It is human nature to lust for power. Do u honestly think that Saddam would give up so easily? I dont know what it was but there appeared to be a real sense of urgency to get the war started. I dont buy this argument about the US wanting to increase their interests in the Middle East. For sure it has happened in the past that way, but we face a new kind of threat today. There is alot of unscrupulous and underhand activity be it Al Qaeda, Saddam Hussein - whatever. These ppl are brutal and indiscriminate. We cannot allow them to win otherwise the things that u and I hold dear in this world will cease to be of any value or indeed exist.

Your argument about bringing religion into the scheme of it is interesting - one ive not really thought about until now. U make the point about Bush being as wrong in using the name of God as the Taliban were in claiming their actions were in the name Allah. It is inevitable that this would be the case, because if u believe strongly enough in what u do then of course u will use something (in this case religion) as justification for it in order to get the populous on ur side. Religion doesnt takes sides, its the people that give it sides. There is constantly a (particularly left-wing) school of thought that says religion is the cause of all wars and all troubles, when in fact it is the actions of humanity which causes war. Its sad the way religion is badmouthed the way it is just as it would be if anything else detracted from the many faults of mankind. Im not a particularly religious guy, but we have to stop putting the blame for our misgivings on other things.

As far as protests go, Im all in favour. Speaking about this country, its good that the government is kept on its toes and I was happy to see that there were alot of young ppl involved. What I didnt like is how these anti-war protests (as it seems all protests are now, in this country at least) were politicised and leapt upon by the socialists, marxists u name them they jumped on the bandwagon...Its just not possible now to make an apolitical statement. Thats whats wrong with this world if u ask me...

Ur talking to a guy here that has been at uni for four years, a guy that, in his first year managed to drink so much as to be taken to hospital in an ambulence...ur talking to a guy that went on 24 hr drinking competitions at uni...ur talking to a guy that not only worked in a bar but drunk most of it also!! ur talking to a guy that is 6 ft 4 and 15 stone of pure drinking...ness! No lightweight here. I drank so much on my 21st and still was the last person to get drunk - much to the annoyance of my mates lol I have many stories...a challenge?...a challenge??...U CANT HANDLE A CHALLENGE!!
