Starwars Vehicle - Pure_Morning vs Pony vs fredriksson

Ok so are we all going for the same ref or are we all picking a different one?

fredriksson 30-01-2004 01:18 PM

I'd say pick one from here:
http://starwarrior.theforce.ru/encycl/scans/egvv.htm

Alan 30-01-2004 01:25 PM

ok I'll do a sandcrawler then. What time limit shall we set for this? 2 weeks? is that long enough?

Rules:
Modelling
Texturing
Rendering

Optional
Animation

How's that sound?

Pony 30-01-2004 01:48 PM

sounds good. I want to use the same ref you are pure. Did you find your sandcrawler from that site ? (edit) the B-print for the sandcrawler seems to be missing the back at least. Guess I'll watch the movie. (smiles))

Rules seem slandered to me. I would just say show work as you go.

2 weeks sounds good. just as much as ya can do in that time I guess..

kbrown 30-01-2004 01:50 PM

Aahh... this is going to be fun to watch :)

fredriksson 30-01-2004 11:09 PM

Kbrown, maybe... just maybe.
However, the force is strong in these two.
Pony, pure, you got ICQ?

Pony 30-01-2004 11:16 PM

fredriksson 01-02-2004 06:07 PM

A bit hard to see, but it looks cool Alan.
Hints at a pretty detailed tread-assembly.

mtmckinley 01-02-2004 06:07 PM

Neat stuff. :)

dude that's looking great! i think that the only piece you're missing is the base that juts out a bit at the bottom. I love you're tracks though. And those bloody cirlcy things are a nightmare to make look good! :(

Well done though this battle is hotting up a bit now :)

ok here is my latest (In case anyone askes it's an Ambient Occlusion render not a normal one) because I donthave the time to set up the light rig. I will later though.

God only knows what the black ellipse is up in that top corner but I will figure it out later.

nOObie question.... what is an Ambient Occlusion render?

fredriksson 02-02-2004 04:33 PM

It's a step in a method to create photorealistic lighting.
Read about it here:
http://www.andrew-whitehurst.net/amb...te-nav-4141520

Alan 02-02-2004 05:04 PM

yup Fredriksson is right. This one doesnt use that same technique but the general idea is the same.

:)

Alan 04-02-2004 10:05 AM

So after redoing some things hears whare I'm at. But I had a lot of other things to do today so I'll catch up.

mtmckinley 04-02-2004 02:00 PM

leonardo_davi 05-02-2004 07:47 AM

wow !!!! cool simply epic battle!!!!

Alan 05-02-2004 09:32 AM

that's a really nice touch pony! you may want to bevel those edges out a bit to stop them looking so square but apart from that cool :)

I'm starting to fall behind now so I'm gonna have to pick up the pace a bit with my one

Alan

scopa 05-02-2004 11:27 AM

wow, everyone looks great!

what are your render settings? Every render is awesome!

Pony 05-02-2004 02:28 PM

Thanks Fredriksson, Pure, scopa.

I'm trying to hold off on the bevels at the moment. Trying to figer out when and how I want to UV map first.

scopa, I'm just doing a strate MR finalgather render, about 500 on the setting.
The render with the lights. I did spotlights with fog. and I rendered only that in regular maya soft. and composited with the MR FG render

Next. Starting to get the hang of it.

rich 05-02-2004 02:36 PM

Pony: The side panel detail looks good. Is that all split and extruded polygons?

twisteddragon33 06-02-2004 05:54 AM

wow. those are nice looking channels in the side.

I love the lights render too. This one looks close. This is a 3 person FFA?
