Hello,

I'm back to SimplyMaya after a long time.

Here's what i am working on : A Jagdpanzer Ferdinand/Elefant (tank hunter)

Give me your feedbacks, is my model well balanced ?

Thanks

train_ucl 26-04-2004 07:59 PM

nice! like the details ... but lets see what the textures are going to be ;)

vladimirjp 27-04-2004 06:50 PM

i'm not too familiar with this tank design, but usually the top peice is a bit smaller and is sitting on another level, but it looks like you are modeling the way u see the reference pics. it looks on point right now.

MainlineX 27-04-2004 08:29 PM

Nice start!! Looking good...keep it up!

septentrio 28-04-2004 07:09 PM

Well, this is not a tank, this is a tank hunter, designed to blast a tank at very long distance.

So, there's no turret spinning around the base.

you can find info at www.panzerlexikon.com

Nice detailing, !! :)

Another view...give me feedbacks:)

foo1971 04-05-2004 09:51 AM

I love it i tried ages ago to complete a german wespe tank and failed , but you have done very well.
Id love a copy of the file so as i can see how you have modelled the tank.
well done

septentrio 04-05-2004 11:36 AM

Thanks foo1971, i have not detailed yet the rear part and built the treads.

Why did you fail making the Wespe. You didn't have good image references ?

I rendered it using Mental Ray but i don't know how to make the rendering "smooth" (fuzzy shadows and s.o) Any help welcome.

Cooles Panzer :P
FinalGater, Gl, More dirt maps, waiting for ya final pic

tyro 06-05-2004 02:36 PM

new here but to make fuzzy shadows, try lowering the D-Map Resolution or lowering the D-Map Filter, or Both :) (hope i'm right)

Ok, improved the texture a little, modelled the treads, tried to make the whole vehicle animatable...

MutatedHelix 24-05-2004 07:14 PM

Your TANKHUNTER wins points with me

im not going to push you around //shove*shove//
but im shure if you take a bit of dirt and throw it over your TH
then it will push up the realism...maybe even a change in scheme

*sorry*
uhm....forget what i said if you dont want to.......
but it's only one mans opinion
otherwise your TH Jagdpanzer kicks some wholesome Poly@ss
**** 5ive stars and three cheers!

septentrio 24-05-2004 07:33 PM

Hmmm, you're right MutatedHelix, I'll order the commander to cross marshes...thanks for your comments;)

I tried to compose it with a backgound (my bedroom), quite successful but the intersection of the image plane and the ground blocks the shadow.

What's the clue ?

contrast 25-05-2004 12:26 PM

I think it looks great, but I would suggest that the tank's shadow should be shorter and contain more brown, like the other shadows in the picture do. Plus the front left tred should be darker because it should not be facing the light, but instead it looks very bright. (I don't know how to fix it since I have very little experience with rendering, but that is just what I can see)

MutatedHelix 25-05-2004 12:40 PM

Contrast has a very good point...
:)
though i have a limited range of expierience with 3d+real composition but the shadow is a bit too dark and the shadows colour would do well with a bit of brown...Just a Litlle!?!??

---

your tank looks exelent!!!! good going....now to make a little movie

(screen goes dark)

....comander we have incoming!!!
(red light pop on and off like a fualty fluerescent)
bombs drop earth rumbles then silence
BOOOM!!!
the tank explodes....

you climb out of the TH
VICTORY...

septentrio 25-05-2004 03:01 PM

Yes, MR is excellent but still hard to tweak. Gonna play around with the shadows (make it brighter and red coloured), materials are too bright...
It's almost ready for an animation (wheels are spinning according their radius , treads too) , all is grouped but when i move it, the treads tread doesn't follow and goes from the front one (is that understandable ?)

foo1971 25-05-2004 03:28 PM

This model is truly looking cool, I love it

MutatedHelix 25-05-2004 03:41 PM

There is a tut at Nior i think for treads but if you have no probs then go for it....

true treu
EXELENT tank hunter

septentrio 26-05-2004 09:15 AM

MutatedHelix, what's the address of the site you're pointing to ?

Alan 26-05-2004 10:18 AM

contrast raised some good points, the shadow is far too long and not the right colour. If you shadow in future extends beyond the ground plane then simply extend the ground plane.

As for your tracks problem, what script did you use to make the tracks?

septentrio 26-05-2004 01:02 PM

You all are right...shadow needs some fixing...

For the tracks i used AS_treadscreation v2.0....have you ever tried it ?

The whole mesh is grouped and parented under a locator.

Alan 26-05-2004 01:08 PM

yes i have used that one. What you need to do is grab the locators that are underneath the top locator (speed control I think it's called) and then parent this to your geometry (leave the AS_treads_grp as is) rather than the whoel track. The tracks should then move with the geometry. when you move it.

roach105 26-05-2004 01:31 PM

looking very cool septentrio. To fix the material brightness trying bringing down the irradiance color for the tracks material. I don't thing Maya is giving true values when your using Mental ray with the irradinace cranked up to white. it should be more around 50% - 70% grey. This will depend on the amount of lights in your scene.

FubaR 18-06-2004 09:35 PM

Nice one. Great modeling.
I like the way how you textured it.

Shayder 18-06-2004 10:42 PM

Nice job on the tank. It looks pretty good. Would like to see it animated.

last render (but not the least)

Just FG, no GI and no light...truely effective the buddy Mental Ray

And as always, give me your impressions

NextDesign 21-06-2004 10:24 PM

Looks cool man. Good work.

septentrio 23-06-2004 11:16 AM

Made a movie sample...encoded in DivX with VirtualDub

moving forward

RubberChicken 23-06-2004 11:20 AM

Nice, I especially like that animation its very smooth and clean.

septentrio 24-06-2004 06:17 PM

Same video, this time i added a tread sound...size : 1,4 MB

video

ransick 24-06-2004 09:43 PM

boy do I hate that sound...
but it does really match and fit to the tank!! :) like how you did this...great work!
