damn, well...... um...i'm 26 married with 2 little boys, i worked for 6 years as an arborist (not certified) and the last 2 as a install tech for dish network. I got into computers when i was ten or so and i've been hooked ever since.... every thing i know is self taught, no courses or formal training ( i took the a+ basic and core test and paseed both with a 92...and never opened the study guide. I've been using maya for about a month now....strictly for artistic expression. i have no ambitions of a career with this stuff....it's no fun once it becomes work. oh yeah...i'm also a fantasy writer...nothing published but almost.......

p.s bunny....you know the guy from the village people??? the sailor?????.........that's 3dnut.....

he's also my brother.

I'm 25.. living in the middle of nowhere in Devon (UK). taking a year out of my animation degree to earn a little cash and basically taking a breather from london. Aside from Maya (specifically animation) I play the drums, surf (not much else to do down here;) ride my mountain bike and go to as many metal/industrial gigs as i can afford! Love reading fantasy books, and watch red dwarf, blackadder and mony python religiously :D

Nem 30-09-2002 09:57 PM

where do you learn ur animation kal?

kal 30-09-2002 10:48 PM

I did my first two years at Herts, but wont be going back due to it generally sucking (even more now the best tutor has left). gonna try and do my 3rd year at bournmouth or maybe portsmouth

Nem 01-10-2002 12:00 AM

i thought herts were only training games? and in max? cos my friend goes there, that what hes taking

kal 01-10-2002 10:24 PM

yup it is max based, but I did everything in maya :D lecturers didnt really have a problem with it as i bought a student license, and could still apply most of the max sessions to maya anyway (same principals, different way of achieving it). no it isnt just games, or at least it wasnt last year. I guess with it being max based alot of the students are going to want to get into games as its just about the only part of the industry that still has a plenty of jobs going (at least down here), and the uni has a few links with games companys too.

Nem 01-10-2002 11:09 PM

ah, i was thinking about applying at herts when i go to uni, but i wanted to hopefully get into film one day, mayb i cud work my way up thru games, i dunno

kal 01-10-2002 11:23 PM

I'd really think twice about applying there.. I mean its cool that its close to you and you got a mate there, but there are better unis. especially for 3D/animation. Bournemouth and teeside spring to mind ;)

Nem 01-10-2002 11:29 PM

sorry but i aint heard of any of these, how are they better?

Roman 01-10-2002 11:31 PM
