Hello everybody

I am taking part in the CGTalk challenge as well, anyway this is what I am doing

it's nearing the end of the century and Earth has become to small, for the latter half of the century various governments have started creating large machines that convert uninhabitable planets to something a little bit more habitable, before sending out this new technology, the governments of Earth sets up a Council that will deal with issues this new venture shall bring, the Council creates a small but sizeable force that will land scout the targeted planet for any signs of life. This force made up of volunteers from every army around the glode, all ready to embark on this great event that will change mankind forever.

Nice m8 i like the glow behind the planet - i take it that the sun is going to appear from behind it.....looks like good detail on the planet as well as far as i can see - do you have any more pics?

some of the rocks seem to be floating to me. Might just be me though. Could check the shadows maybe. Seem like they should have long thin shaddows coming towards the camera if the light if straight ahead right?

dae 24-10-2004 08:43 PM

Hey Dae

Love it!!!! Just love some of those challenges on
CG Talk/Networks, they really do show off some great talent out there. Keep this coming, looks promising.

Oh if you need to make stars in Photoshop:

Create File, fill with noise (mono chromatic) at 999 then go to Filter>Stylize>diffuse and hit darken> apply, then repeat darken till happy..... Then add a sprinkling of , oops sorry thats Delia Smith!!!

hey dae,

long time no see, looking good there mate, very halo combat evolved ;)

that drop ship?, is it your final shape? just a lead in to another question?

later mate - murph

dae 15-11-2004 02:39 PM

1 Attachment(s)
Thanks Jango, I shall give that a try, there are some really talented people like Kurt and many others,:)

hey Murph yeah long time no see, I like the shape of the ship so for now it will stay, I didnt intend for the helmet to be like a Halo one.

been adding some detail to the helmet, and started the head,

Dae:)

brentlydavis 15-11-2004 03:52 PM

It kinda looks to me like with the head in there the angle that the helmet is pointing would obstuct a lot of his vision. and it kinda looks like it would be uncomfortable. But it is a great model and I can't wait to see it done.

Thats sucks big time Kurt, I liked the theme you are working on, the old GOOD vs EVIL theme, cant realy get more iconic than that.

Dae:)

deathwish 19-11-2004 03:27 PM

I'm impressed m8 - looking dam good - i couldn't get close to that if i wanted to - cant wait for the finished work...how much time have you spent on this so far, and how long have you been modelling for?

dae 19-11-2004 04:58 PM

thanks Deathwish, I have spent pretty much every lunch hour since the 21st October modeling everything, cant really do much on the weekends as tend to work on those, anyway I started using Maya in January 2004 before that I used Lightwave (still do no and then) that started about July 25th, my first model can be found at SimplyLightwave:)

Dae:)

Jay 22-11-2004 07:57 PM

Hey Dae

Overall its neat but I think you could improve the proportions on the body a bit, as its lower regions ( butt n bollock area) looks way too long. I would have a look at some reference or even yaself in a mirror.

Cheers dude

_J

dae 22-11-2004 07:59 PM

will check that out, thought it looked a bit odd

Thanks

Dae:)

RubberChicken 22-11-2004 08:06 PM

Nice, I love your progress so far
But whatever you do dont stand in the mirror naked checking out your proportions :p

I have had a quick tinker (hope you dont mind) but also the quads his legs are too sharp and square. If you want some good anatomy pics there a guy called Andrew Loomis ( I think thats right) He does anatomy studies, check him out on the web, I have stacks of pdfs of his, really useful, worth a look!!
