Really like the last render. The model is looking good and materials seems great to me.

gster123 13-11-2005 07:26 PM

Looking really good man, have you had any other 3d modeling knowlage???

The only thing I could see, and this is being picky mind, the flex looks a little to rigid to me in the way its hanging, but then again a new flex would do that!

Good work on the textures and rendering.

What rendering did you use?

Exdaix 13-11-2005 09:16 PM

Hey, I'm coming in late to this thread, but my family owns a Dyson... if you need any close-up shots of the details anywhere, just ask. I head home from college on Friday the 18th for Thanksgiving break. I can just snap a few shots of whatever you need, feel free to ask.

Graylen 14-11-2005 07:41 AM

looks good so far :)
If you need ref pics let me know... I got one in the closet, its the purple one but still a Dyson.

t1ck135 14-11-2005 12:30 PM

good idea writing and asking for the technical info, hopefully you'll get some good line drawings and reference images

looking good :)

magicsy 14-11-2005 04:50 PM

:D thanks for the input guys, like i said above i have been out with the wife and we got a new vac on sunday the purple one also its the Animal or something slightly different but anyone who has the Yellow version yeah id love to have some pics posted up :D "so get em up :P)
i rendered using mental ray
res =HD1080
also finalgather caustics and global ill.
and just play with the settings till i see something i like just trial and error really.
personally i think your render is most important that and lighting.
so mess with them loads,

heres a better version i quite like this, what u all think?

magicsy 17-11-2005 07:29 PM

hmm i looked at all the god dam stuff on GI joe but i still cant get it to work!.
would it really make a difference to my renders?
and how will i know its worked.. lol!

ckyuk 17-11-2005 07:36 PM

Because you'll get and option box pop-up and then a mass of lights. But i don't think it would help you with this model anyway, as you tend to loose highlights. I know i'm not using it for my entry.

magicsy 17-11-2005 07:53 PM

kk cheers pal, i was kinda thnking i was missing out for my model :D
anyways ill work it out eventually.

ckyuk 17-11-2005 07:56 PM

Have you edited line 57 of the script to point to your lights?

If you have has the path of your lights file got any spaces in it (Maya doesn't like them).?

magicsy 17-11-2005 07:58 PM

// modify here the path of the imported scene.
string $pathL = "C://Documents and Settings//Simon Hitchins//My Documents//maya//scripts//GIJoe.lights";

ckyuk 17-11-2005 08:02 PM

It won't work with "Documents and Settings". Make a folder at "C:/" called GIJoe and put the GIJoe.lights file in it. The edit the script to "C:/GIJoe/GIJoe.lights"

magicsy 17-11-2005 08:08 PM

ok done that now i opened script editor then opened file then went to open script and pointed to the Gijoe mel script
but nothing happened.

magicsy 17-11-2005 08:10 PM

// modify here the path of the imported scene.
string $pathL = "C:/GIJoe/GIJoe.lights";

ckyuk 17-11-2005 08:13 PM

ok so you put the GIJoe.lights in C:/GIJoe/GIJoe.lights. Then open notepad and open the script file change the path on line 57. Click save. Then reload maya. The type "GI_Joe;" in the command line.

magicsy 17-11-2005 08:17 PM

hmm the command line been the box below the script editor?

ckyuk 17-11-2005 08:23 PM

white strip bottom left hand corner.

magicsy 17-11-2005 08:47 PM

cannot find procedure GI_joe.

ckyuk 17-11-2005 08:49 PM

and the .mel file is in ...My Documents/Maya/Scripts

magicsy 17-11-2005 09:14 PM

:attn: :attn:
lmao what a dumbass i was puting the mel script in the script folder for maya learning edition i had on my comp ages ago!
its all cool now really appreciate the help hope i can do the same for u sometime. :)

magicsy 17-11-2005 09:20 PM

ok now i get the small option box but after that i see nothing else?

magicsy 17-11-2005 09:28 PM

hmmm its ok sorry bout that the option box needed streching b4 i could see the %^$*ing Go create button!!!:headbang:

Sup guys ok nearly finished heres a rough idea on how ill be presenting my finished entry.
Been working on renders all weekend.
Still needs some texturing here n there. Sorry for the large pic its so i could fit the whole pic on and not lose 2 much detail. :)

t1ck135 21-11-2005 09:16 AM

nice progress on this, its looking good :)

the back view (bottom left) looks like it should have a little more contrasted shadow.

magicsy 21-11-2005 10:14 AM

yea your right i looks a little flat wondered what the problem was
thanks for that ;)

magicsy 22-11-2005 11:10 PM

been practicing and learning with some hdri's post some up tomorrow, finished texturing the filter too.

ok been reshaping in certain areas. needed balancing up.Also needs smoothing some more. heres the filter finished too. i have tweaked my shaders tryin for a better plastic look too!
A problem ive noticed is some large pixel like squares on this pic near the wheel and in a couple of other places too?
anyone know what this is?

dilberts 25-11-2005 07:15 AM

I'm guessing it's your final gather, if you're using it. Increase the number of rays, and adjust the min/max radius. If not, I'm sorry I don't know.

THX1138 25-11-2005 10:49 AM

If it's a nurbs wheel, up the tesselation. If it's a Mental Ray problem, up the anti-aliasing samples ( Min / Max). Of course these are just guesses aswell.

Best of luck!
