2D Art Concept/Show Your Stuff

1 Attachment(s)
Hey Guys

I think there was a thread a little while back regarding 2d/Concept Art and how people wanted to show their work off. I thought maybe we could start it as a thread that gets made Sticky and then maybe see where it goes from there.

So here we go, this is my effort from a 1hr stint in PS last week with the guys at work, the subject was one word only so I chose 'Nomad'. Everyone who did it came inside the one hour with some great results, anyway I was pleased with mine so I thought Id use it as some concept art for my own project.

Cheers
Jay

This is a good idea for a thread.

I don't have any original maya work to show for the moment, so this is a rough concept sketch for a low poly character that I am planning to start modelling soon.

swankymonkey 11-04-2006 03:57 AM

Sweet, dudes!!!

Jay. You may have created a monster with this thread. I'll bet theres tons of people on here with concept art to share.

Heres my first contribution to the mix. The original sketch was done in pencil probably 6 years ago. I must have spit shined it in photoshop or painter some time after ...

It's not my stuff obviously, but my good buddy Steve Garcia is really good. He did the concepts for both of my books.

bcrichplayer 02-07-2006 08:25 AM

nice dragon 3Demon
If i had a scanner i would post my work:(
How did u colour it?

Jay 02-07-2006 08:40 AM

Excellent. I love to see a 3d model of this one with a Z pass on it.

I didnt think people were taking notice of this thread much. Good to see thats not the case. I have some more to post during the week once I get them scanned, some 8minute challenge work, in pencil of a character and some concept work

Best
Jay

3Demon 02-07-2006 09:38 AM

I did it in photoshop, was just a quick sketch which is why it looks a little strange.

and Jay I actually modelled that thing and put it in Zbrush to finish it off, I just checked if I had any of those renders left but unfortunately I don't.

Keep em coming guys

arran 02-07-2006 05:34 PM

Great sketch 3Demon - I would love to see the model - it's a shame you dont have any renders.

Nice drawings bcrichplayer - that's some crazy hair on the first one! And I like your Prince of Persia sketch - very cool! Well done for putting your drawings in - it's nice to see this thread hasn't completely fallen off the map.

Come on people!

Jay 02-07-2006 07:26 PM

Hey Guys

I did scan these, they were on my usb stick, I just forgot. Not proportionally great but again these are for my personal project, and were done between renders at work, one in ballpoint and the other in pencil. they were also done on A3 sized paper so are pretty big too.

If you guys like Prince of Persia get over to the forums at www.conceptart.org its run by Massive Blacks' Jason Manley, its a great forum and full of fantastic inspirational works

Will post again in the week

Cheers
Jay

Marko's work is pretty damn good that's for sure, I remember looking through his stuff a while back (starting to get a little similar to Justin Sweet) , a lot of the sketchbooks look fantastic as well.

G-Man 03-07-2006 05:49 AM

..Marko makes me wish i'd never dropped my pencil for a mouse...
i now have the urge to pick it back up for the first time in years...wow

I've just started fleshing out his cape, which is still mostly just base colors for it. The boots I haven't even started yet, and I'll be touching up the drawing of his legs (i'm aware that his left foot looks really messed up right now). The countours are also temporary, and I'll be touching those up once the actual painting is completed.

Not really concept work but here's some of my dead old 2D artwork (over 8 years ago, the A-level stuff at the bottom is over 12 years old! gulp).
The only computer-based ones are the Dunction Wood pictures, the rest are pencil, charcoal, acrylic or oil.
The newer stuff (general and life drawing sections) are when I decided to start up again last year and learn about proper proportions of the body. I've got more but its hard to scan A1/A2 sized sheets ;)
