i created a nurbs circle, rotated it 90 degrees in both X and Y and went to the vertices level, with my finger on the X key I grid snapped the corners of the circle (16 sections in the channel box) into this position

for some reason the screen shot wont pick up what happened, when I clicked the trim tool onto the surface the surface went to a white wire frame and then you click again on the surface you want to keep and a yellow marker is put there (on the part of the surface to be kept.

by the same process of projection and trim i created some holes (vents) one went through the seam but i'll get to that.

i right clicked and chose 'trimmed surface' and then selected the hole, i went to edit nurbs/ duplicate cuves on surface and moved the duplicated curve back a bit, selected both the curve on surface and the duplicated curve and went 'loft
