dannyngan 15-01-2007 11:20 PM

No one says you have to upgrade every time a new version comes out. Stick with what you have and get your work done.

starjsjswars 16-01-2007 12:10 AM

Yea i know lol i just like knowing i have the newest maya ;)

but i am not going to upgrade for awhile.

marlonjohn 16-01-2007 06:24 AM

tweetytunes 16-01-2007 10:15 AM

link

starjsjswars 16-01-2007 01:40 PM

Do you like it?

graphiac 16-01-2007 07:54 PM

I'm on your boat marlon at these rates I"m a 7 man for a little bit.

twisteddragon33 17-01-2007 04:22 AM

marlonjohn 19-01-2007 01:16 PM

ahaha graphiac, feel free to come aboard :p anyone welcome, lol.

" i finally started using maya 8 last week. ive been using maya 5 for a LONG time... i think i didnt stop using maya 4 untill maya 6.5 came out...."

im using maya 7 and i reckon i will be using it for another 5 years lol. dont like to change programs even if there a little bit the different. i dont know why i bought maya 4.5 bible book though, and maya 6 for windows ... lol

tweetytunes 19-01-2007 02:15 PM

We keep switching in work. I started in sept on 7, then 8 and now 8.5. The main resions = 64bit versons of the softwear and ncloth.

But at home it took me ages to get the money for Maya7 and I cant afford the updates. My boss got me a licance for my laptop but thats only because I`m trying to learn cloth (be it syflex or ncloth) but I`ll lose it when we hire more animators in about a months time.

I love alot of the changes autodesk have made, and best of all they don`t interfere with my workflow only improve it.

I`m loving ncloth it works alot like (but faster than) syflex but there is just not explain how to use very well. The help pages keeps jumpimg to other pages explaning about one thing then stops and you have to go back and find the page you came from.- very hard to follow.

Think I`m going to save up and grab 9 when it comes out, if they dont release it in like 4 months that is.

marlonjohn 19-01-2007 02:25 PM

man i was excited when i got 64bit windows cd original. then i find out 90% literally of my stuff does not work on it...

"Think I`m going to save up and grab 9 when it comes out, if they dont release it in like 4 months that is."

hope its a long time lol, imagen it comes out this year ;)

just wondering also, where bouts you work?

starjsjswars 19-01-2007 04:25 PM

yea i am going to save up for a new computer and then get the adobe video bundle and then get maya 9 lol... i have a way to go i am only 15 almost 16 :)

DJbLAZER 26-01-2007 11:02 AM

I`m working for a new company called "AIFX" down in dartford uk. (near London). My boss set up a games company and had 3 smallish hits with them (dont ask me what they were i have no idea) and then was asked if he could do a trailer for someone. He then got the idea of doing a movie.

In sept 06 me and another were hired to make a teck demo of what could be done, and in Nov it blow the intvester away. In march we will be expanding.

heres a vary bad website but it has a copy of the teck-demo on it.

www.andalus.tv

Currently I have mad 8 main characters 5 secondary charaters and 3 background characters with multi body part (so they can look different but only need 1 rig) and created 32 ses of cloths as well as weapons, items people are holding. I dont have to uv map, texture or rig them (thats what the other girl does) so that helps.

where the hell you getting your maya from ????

gster123 26-01-2007 05:32 PM

Think that might be the student licence

DJbLAZER 26-01-2007 10:56 PM

Haven.t heard of a student license... I've only seen Unlimited, Complete and Personal Learning Edition. So can I get a link, please?

gster123 26-01-2007 11:04 PM

Think you might need to get in contact with your reseller to get a price quote, as you need to prove that your either a education establishment (school, college, uni etc) or your a student.

There used to be links to a price, but it was on resellers sites not via alias/autodesk direct.

cheesly 06-02-2007 05:16 PM

I prefer maya 7 I had maya 8 but there wasn't much difference and i really didn't like it for some reason I went back to 7

danotronXX 13-02-2007 03:27 AM

same with cheesly. tried maya 8 didnt like it went back to 7.0. I dont know why they keep making new versions though nowadays with so many plugins out there especially at highend3d.com I dont really see a need for newer versions at this rate.

I don't suppose you take on gap year students or do apprenticeships? :p I can't find anyone who does!

I have Maya 7 and I think I'm going to stick with it for the next 4 years! I don't think many Universities upgrade their software that frequently, so when I go I'll probably be using version 6 :p
