I have been thinking about ideas and i'm gonna do a charachter (Possible in a vehicle if time allows). He'll be a miner/digger sort of theme and he'll be either holding a massive flame thrower or a big drill. Here is my first quick concept.

THX1138 12-03-2007 11:10 PM

Looks awsome Some Guy! Keep the wips comming!

Also, I'm really happy to know that your not making any giant spiders.

goksimaster 12-03-2007 11:27 PM

The sketch is roof but he is looing all right .

What is wrong with a giant mechanical spider

Weyu 13-03-2007 12:20 AM

I kinda like it, looks like a dwarf or my old teacher. :)

Some Guy 13-03-2007 07:56 AM

Hey
I did it really quickly and i am crap with proportions. This is just to get a feel for what it'll look like. I want it to be short. I'm taking a bit of inspiration from the Warhammer miniatures and, as bad as it makes me feel, from the disney (Shudders) film Atlantis.

arran 13-03-2007 08:46 AM

sounds cool - I like your sketch.

I need to put on my thinking cap....

Hi all,
I am keeping this model low poly like mike suggested. I am starting by making a basic concept 3d model just to get a feel for what the final will be like. Ive made the head in a bout an hour.

Nice nice, I really like the head, looks like a character taken from one of the Zelda games. :)

Thanks,
Looking at it now though i think he looks a bit like Chopper Reid.
I am still blocking it out some more.

Yeah, reminds me of the carpenters in zelda (majoras mask or ocarina of time, cant remember witch of them)

mtmckinley 14-03-2007 09:55 PM

Finished blocking out the body. Ive decided to make some sort of vehicle aswell. I'll get designing soon. I know he is disproportioned at the moment but i still need to fix it.

t1ck135 17-03-2007 12:25 PM

hehe, nice modelling some guy, he's really got that fun cartoony look :)

Si

arran 18-03-2007 12:41 PM

yeah - nice work some guy.

It might be worth beefing up his backpack - it looks a little thin at the moment, but other than that, this is looking cool.

Rhetoric Camel 18-03-2007 03:56 PM

coming along nicely. My only suggestion is doing something with the feet, they look a little too big.

Some Guy 18-03-2007 08:00 PM

Hey all, thanks for the comments :)

Rhetoric Camel-As ive said the proportions need to be fixed up.

Arran- Thanks, after i fix up the main character i was going to detail it more. atm it is just a temp to see where it'll go

Tick- I was going for the cartoony look so it's good to know iv'e done it right

Updates soon :)

And updates they came...
I am going to work on details such as cloth folds and asymetry.
Still keeping it low poly.

Here are a few occlusion renders. They really bring out some of the detail.
A question to mike- How low is low poly. So far this is 2500 faces (Unoptimised). Is that good or should i try to lose some?

C&C welcome

mtmckinley 22-03-2007 10:45 AM

I would actually say you could go higher if you wanted. Unless this look is the style you're going for (it's a neat style!). I'd consider, for a character these days, low poly to be 8000 or less

Some Guy 22-03-2007 04:52 PM

Thanks.
I'm probably gonna add more detail to his hands then and some more edges to make the armour look sharper in places.

arran 23-03-2007 07:53 AM

looking really good some guy - love the drill and this model has got a great feel to it - definitely an early favorite for me.

Thanks arran :)
Iv'e rounded out the model a bit and added a few more edges to it. There are some wrinkles in the clothing now (hard to see) and the belt is alot thicker. still only at 2870 faces.

tweetytunes 23-03-2007 12:14 PM

Ilike it but the one area I don`t like ( it was the same on your transformer) is your hands. They look out of scale with everything else. They are very small.

Thats one hell of a low poly count there well done. Love the tash.

Hey, i think you have the transformer model confused with me cause i made the alien for the last challenge...

I'll make the hands bigger and see what they look like though.
Cheers :)

tweetytunes 24-03-2007 12:45 AM

man i`m so sorry

of cause your right
I loved your last model ( it got my vote)

feeling very bloody silly now
:shakehead :shakehead :shakehead

they do look alot better

Some Guy 24-03-2007 08:26 PM

Thats ok :)

petrol 25-03-2007 07:32 PM

Looking good man :) I'd suggest beefing up the polycount a little at least though, his miner suit just looks a little too sharp for me at the moment. Very cool head, lots of character, the moustache makes the model :)
