Looking for Ideas

Hi guys just wanted to get some ideas of what kind of hard surface objects you would like to see for possible tuts down the road. We have a mech, apache, ship, living room and a car.

Kurt

How about a house Kurt since that might be something of use in the design industry?

daffas 09-04-2007 11:10 PM

Maybe a futuristic mech with sweet guns!

Rhetoric Camel 09-04-2007 11:30 PM

I agree with jsprogg, a house. After I did the haunted house tutorial I thought I'd give modeling my parents house a shot, and I got the basic shape, but when it came to cutting windows and making window ledges and doors I kind of gave up since I couldn't quite get what I was going for

Perhaps a kids playground. Not as cool, but with all the different geometry, textures, etc., could be a good instructional for several different modeling & texturing techniques. Some pieces could even be animated later on.

Kurt

How about The Space Shuttle or The Saturn V rocket on a gantry, that would be cool!

Buildings ? I really wanna see a tut. about any type of building ;)

Joopson 10-04-2007 06:56 AM

hmm, maybe some kind of space-probe design or a low-poly sci-fi environment.:attn:

At first I was against the house thing because there already existed a haunted house tutorial. But after Rhetoric Camel's comment, I prefer the house idea.

Man jsprogg you took the words out of my mouth. I have been modeling a PR Victorian style house, and have at several times wished that SM had a tut on how to model realistic exteriors.

BTW Thanks for asking everyone Kurt.

99GsTurbo 10-04-2007 08:18 AM

i like the realistic exterior idea as well.

R-Tillery 10-04-2007 10:59 AM

How about a Cyborg style of character. Half flesh the other part Machine with tubes, or like a Terminator all beat up.

danotronXX 10-04-2007 12:42 PM

digital tutors recently released an exteriors and interiors modeling training disks. maybe thats what people are interested in learning nowaday.

Rhetoric Camel 10-04-2007 08:00 PM

another thing I would like to see involved with this is how to render it in mental ray

severinianthony 10-04-2007 09:23 PM

I have to agree with others and say "architecture," be it a space shuttle on a gantry (Jay), a building (jsprogg) or a specific room (living room; Kurt).

I feel that the site has plenty in regards to organic models (low poly basic character, hippo, oliphant, exotic julgle-esque frog) and vehicles (apache, ferrari), and that it would be good to balance it out a bit more and add something architecture-wise (currently only the haunted house).

(I may be wrong; if there is more that I do not know about, feel free to correct me :D )

same idea perfecto. a playground would be neat. it has alot of different objects and props. but maybe not just playing area itself. but the fence, sidewalks, curbs. alot would be learned really.

Kurt 13-04-2007 09:35 AM

I think im going to do a house.. will see if i can find one i really like and maybe a little play ground in the back yard... we will see...

R-Tillery 13-04-2007 01:26 PM

Awesome

13th_resident 13-04-2007 02:39 PM

i will be definitely be looking forward for that.!!

Rhetoric Camel 13-04-2007 06:34 PM

awesome a house! with a little playground in the back would be pretty cool.

Is this going to have a texturing part? Or is it just a model?

House has been started.. just finished the blocking out stage....

might post a few more once its more detailed...

Perfecto 15-04-2007 05:39 AM

I really like the covered porch thingy going around the house and the chimney. Great idea.

Rhetoric Camel 15-04-2007 07:06 AM

excellent, this will hopefully help me with modeling my parents house which I've wanted to do for a long time. Kurt, you rock!

modeling almost done

farbtopf 28-04-2007 11:13 PM

hi,

this might be a bit too late. But what I'd really and what's not really there would be an in depth tutorial on how to light and render. 80% of the tuts here are focussed on modeling which is fair enough but light is of so much importance to make a model look really good.
It would be great to get a tut that goes beyond three point light setup and explains how to actually proceed from that make tweaks and such.

marlonjohn 29-04-2007 03:51 PM

yeah architectural sounds great since we really dont have any tutorials on it besides the haunted house one ...

interesting house youved choosen kurt, looks cool soo far.

Kurt I would like you to do a tut on drawing a character image plane for the front ,side, and top view. Also included how to line them up perfect for import into maya. I have problems lining up and drawing the top and side profile s of my characters. They never seem to line up.
