MadDOG (Battlemech)
1 Attachment(s)
Hi all :)
I finally got maya back and working and i am ready to start somthing new. I am tasking a break from Organics and i am trying to make a mech. I really like the designs from the old Mech-commander / Mech-Warrior games and after alot of searching i managed to find some blueprints. I am using the MadDog as a basis but i am going to add my own stuff to it in the end. What do you all think so far. I have made a start on the arm and rocket, gun thing. C&C Welcome :) |

yeah - nice start. i just might increased the vertical distance between the holes for the rockets, as they are looking a little close at the moment, though I can see in the ref that they are pretty close.

Thanks,
I dont know what i will do about the missiles. I cant really move them around to much because the space on that part is limited. I was thining about adding a hatch that opens when they fire too. Here is an update on the arm and gun. |

Not big into mech thingies (not too sure of the term!)
But this is looking good, if was me I would be tempted to add lots of pipes etc, even though if its getting blasted by another robot which would be a weak point, I think it would add to the look of it |
Thanks,
I might add some pipes or wires around the arm area. I could make them look really heavy duty to seem more in place with it. |
yeah man that would be cool.
Do you mind reducing the pic in your sig? Just that I thought it was a post! |
Done.
|
hehe, didnt mean get rid of it!
Just make it smaller. |

yeah - this is looking really awesome - great work some guy!
just wondering - how did you do the wireframe render on the first page? also, did you model all of the holes in the mesh thing on the front? can we see a close up of how you did that area? - just curious. :) keep at it some guy - really loving this mech. |

Thanks,
The wire render was done in Vector. Then i photoshoped it over a normal render. To make the mesh bit i started with a 10 by 10 poly plane, un-checked the keep faces together option, then pressed the extrude button. When the 'Move, rotate, scale' tool automaticaly comes up, scale both axis and it should give you a mesh looking thing because each face is seperate. |

close up of the mesh bits.
|
of course - that makes sense - i figured they might be circular holes. cheers for the wireframe tip.
|
This is coming along great man:eek:
|
Very very nice ... Will you texture it ?
|
I don't know about texturing. i am not really good enough at it yet to make it look good.
But we'll see :) |
Hey someguy i suck at texturing too, but when i export the model to zbrush it is much easier to paint the model, i still suck at it mind you, but at least i know where to paint:lmao:

Update
I have sorta rigged the model to test it's limits on what looks good or not when posed. Here is a simple walk animation. I had alot of trouble with the feet moving properly. http://www.zippyvideos.com/6632869587219296/mechwalk1/http://i2.zvhost.com/2/r/rrz651m1.jpg |
Hey, i'm not an animationexpert but i think the mech should not have so much hip-movement.
I also think he moves to fluently. His feet must go straightforward slowly raising the feet and a quick drop and a sudden stop(always wanted to say this :p ). off topic: I saw your lord of the rings sketch very monty python man(read compliment) |
Thanks,
The animation was to check for any problems with the joints moing. Unfortunatley the hips have to go like that or else the legs dont move right. I may be able to tone it down a bit. When i get a chance i will work on a more real looking walk. I need to fix up soem rigging probs first. Ps: the thing in my sig wasnt made by me, i thaught it was funny though. |
amazing! nice job with the detail and animation Someguy ...
|
Thanks,
Ive started to work on a better walk animation. i have improoved the rig so it is much easier to use now. Here is a playblast of the anim so far. http://www.zippyvideos.com/6870270997226736/mechwalk1/ |
although it was very very short, it looked from what i could see a lot better
