Security Guard/Soldier - The Talos Project
Hey here's another character for my novel.
http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/7158/bodybase01ld7.jpg Shot at 2007-10-12 This time it's a security guard for some of the Subterranean levels of the PFT organization where the military funded projects are and so these guys are more like soldiers. In fact they are based on these guys http://img479.imageshack.us/img479/2195/fwpw1.jpg Shot at 2007-10-12 Exept I'll give them better guns, maybe something along the lines of the G36. Just started so got a bit of designing to do and will prob begin with the helmet. More soon Gio |
very cool - especially the legs!
|
Nice so far Dave,
Is it a gay Batman suit, its the boots they are a dead give away;) _J |
Do you like the socks, jamon he heee!
This dude should be fun to do, as I bored of creating men in suits, which I done three of now. Time for the more interesting characters. Gio |
Okay,
I've started the helmet http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/7102/helmet01zf4.jpg Shot at 2007-10-15 still a bit to do on it but you get the idea Gio |
Looks cool man, be looking forward to updates and where your going to take him.
You got any infor on the Talos Project? or Is it all in your head/books/notes etc? |
Thanks gster123,
These guys will feature as security and military presence at the PFT complex. There will be quite a few of them. The photo is of the Vision 2020 design being worked on at the Natick Soldier Center which unsurprisingly will be in issue in 2020. I will also be making an improved version, an updated version in my story which will also be based on the real Vision 2020 model but take it another decade or so on in development fitting the stories timeline. The first 5 pages are finished but will remain under wraps for the time being. The rest is a mixture of some storyboards some dialogue both on paper scribbles, digital records on my pc and pda, and electro-chemical (in my brain) The website at the mo for it is just an ad, and I have another one waiting, but I want to get more finished before I launch, with about 12 pages and a few other sections on the website. The opening shot for it is this http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/3...02a1024ko9.jpg Shot at 2007-10-09 The building on the left is the PFT-AK (Pandora Future Technologies - Alaska) building. This is where the first chapter takes place, and the old professor dudes works here along with Eugene O'Neal the founder. The Guard above will be posted on the subterranean levels of this complex. That's all I can say for now, but I will continue to post updates showing it's progress with various characters vehicles weapons etc until it's launch and beyond. Gio |
Nice!
that image looks really good, looking forward to its launch! |
Thanks man, I appreciate the support and encouragement, it means a lot when people show interest into a project that takes a hell of a lot of dedication and hard work to get going.
It makes it worthwhile. I'm sure Jay 'feels me' on this one Thanks again Gio |
Yeah, what with Jays outlaws and your talos Project going, i'll be finding it hard to do any work at all!
|
ok here's another little update
http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/6541/helmet03xc0.jpg Shot at 2007-10-15 http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/6488/helmet04tx6.jpg Shot at 2007-10-15 Cheers Gio |
I made a hoover...

your security guard is coming along nicely!
The image before is really cool...i like it a lot. one thing though - the cars in the car park on the left look a little big to me. looking forward to seeing more updates. |
G...
Sorry for the late reply was busy yesterday. Updates look nice, love the pipe work, very Geiger! Did you use a script for the pipe or lots of extrudes and a bend deformer? I would just darken the cars on the left in the picture to save re- renders, that should keep the eye away from there, the shot isnt about them so to me its no big a deal. Yes, Im with you all the way Gio with that comment. Its a hell of a lot of work, its also something that I want both of us to achieve, no matter the content and whose is better than whose. The personal satisfaction of getting this done will be immense and also a middle fingered salute to those non believers. Gio knows exactly who Im refering to here, we worked under severe conditions and an iron fist in this type of work a while back, we knew what we could achieve but were always told NO! Im afraid the time has come to prove those people wrong....... I seek, the means to fight injustice.....oops getting carried away now:bandit: Jay |
Hi
arran: Cheers. I believe everything was measured to scale so it may just be the lense which makes the cars at the edge of the image look larger than in the middle, I will have another look at the original file to double check, but as jay point out the shot isn't about them and you never ever see them again anyway. Jay: Actually the pipe is just a pipe with a bump map on it Lol! But it fooled you so it's good enough for me. Not planning on going overly close in on his helmet, if I do I'll displace it. Maya hasn't arrived yet, doh. How you getting on with 'soft'? Staying close to the Vision 2020 design except I moved the tube so it connects in the back of the helmet rather than the side as it does on the real model. I thought it would look better and make rigging it easier. I have to build another version of these soldiers for later in the first chapter, an elite team for which I will take this model but give it a redesign of my own, which should be fun. Thanks Gio |
G-Man
I had a go with Soft, very nice, but as Im in Maya mode so to speak Im just going to go with that, get shave in a month or two, with a bit of luck. But the way things have been it could be sooner. Soft is great, given a month I think I'd get on with it real nice. Similar to Maya in many ways, but different, if that makes sense. But I need to get on with stuff so figured no point arsing with other 'wares' getting into Zb was bad enough LOL, not that I regret that of course! BUMP MAP....Doh!! Cheers for now _J |
Exactly my thoughts, on the matter, plus I felt there was prob an element of 'the grass is greener' type of thing when looking at other apps. Ok so it is cheaper with hair and cloth but, We've been using Maya full-time for what, 5+ years so it is a big leap to switch everything over.
As for the pipe, was just about to model it and then thought, hang on, NO! all the detail in the back panel is bumped. Gonna have a few pages with half a dozen or so of these guys in combat, and then some with their helmets off showing their face too so looking to keep it simple. Gio |
Hey, been busy with other work, but managed to get a little bit more done
http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/4871/bod01gp7.th.jpg http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/508...et06nl7.th.jpg Cheers Gio |
Ok another very small update for now as still busy with other work.
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/4838/bod02dd2.jpg Shot at 2007-10-31 Gio |
yeah - this is looking really cool.
maybe make the logo a bit bigger...? |
Looking good man!
|
arran: cheers, do you mean the logo on the helmet or the badge? Either way I just wanted them to be subtle markings and not stick out too much.
Just updated the vest fastenings http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/851/bod03zh4.jpg Shot at 2007-10-31 Gio |
i meant both, but i see what you mean. :)
|
We'll see how it all looks in the end, as it's an easy thing to change later.
G |
Damn that looks good.
I tried making a character and completely failed. D: |
Getting there, but that armpit area is giving me za sheetz!!
Later Jay |
The body is just a basic block out shape at the mo, as I'm extracting from it and when all the other bits are done there prob won't be any of it left, as it will be made up of a hell of a lot of panels and layered sections, basically it will be all right in the end.
I would upload another ref pic to show you but the hard drive with the ref on is going through error checking at the mo. Been having a fab time with disk errors this week. Don't you just love having to switch between being an artist and a technician to get a job done = No! G |
Okay another little update.
http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/1761/bod04tk4.jpg Shot at 2007-11-06 Gio |
PS. Ignore the texture on the upper shoulder strap
Cheers Gio |
i know im no expert. but that looks really good.
|
Thanks Underscore678
Gio |
|
one thing
Looks great! One thing though. The head looks a bit small underneath the helmet. Take a good look a it. With the helmet on the head the size looks about normal. If you take off the helmet the head will look too small.
|
djknucklez1: Yeah it was a tad, just scaled it up a bit, although it's not the head that will be inside when it's finished.
Cheers Gio |
Looking good Gio!
|
Cheers gster123, just texturing the back. Will post update tomorrow.
Gio |
great job - really loving the new details.
|
Cheers arran,
Got real work to do now, hopefully get some more done tonight Gio |
Just saw this and have to say is looking great so far. Can't see anything to crit that has not been mentioned already and they are only very minor things.
