I have already built this car in Swift 3D 3 years ago.
But as Maya has a much more powerful tool i am rebuilding it.

Comments are welcome

Looking pretty good so far!

There seems to be a few Dings, and bumps here and there, that you might want to even out.

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out!

Are you going to be separating the panels up?... Or, are you just going to leave that to the textures?

Have fun

Indeed there is still allot of work. :)

I`m making all the edges in modelling, i don`t like to do that in textures for cars.

Btw less texture problems :)

Today`s update.

Mayaniac 16-01-2008 12:35 PM

Looking pretty good!

Theres some areas that seems kinda weird!

And the whole car just kinda gives off a Cartoony feel.... if you follow!

Which year is this Mustang that your modeling?
It doesn't seem to match any of the Images i pulled up on Google.

Pretty nice work though!

Good work, I like this car a little older style. If with older materials much more good far maybe. Hope to with texture and keep it up!

thx learar i will try to get an old styled painting. Only i`m figuring out if they used metallic collors back then.

Anyone know?

Still to do

Editing the sides of the car around the front wheel.

side mirrors, door handels, exhaust pipe, wipers, grid near wipers, remodel fantasy next to side window.

And i might update the Mustang Fastback 1968 to a Mustang Fastback 1968 GT

Don`t know yet

anyways here is the first colloring test.

elephantinc 21-01-2008 03:27 AM

its looking much better now;)

Mayaniac 21-01-2008 05:34 AM

This is really coming together nicely!

I like the render test, the paint shader could use some work!

As for what type of paint they used back then. I can imagen it was a more solid, acrylic, style paint, as opposed to a more modern metallic paint! BUT I'm not sure.

Anyway, Nice work! Looking forward to updates!

Agent_Dick 21-01-2008 05:45 AM

agreed! Excellent work. If I may ask though, where do you guys get these references? I've seen a lot of people making cars on this forum and they always have really good references.

just noticed the stripe is to ambient, will change that.

jsprogg 21-01-2008 11:33 PM

This is looking nice but watch that chrome blowing out on the render ,maybe an IBL render might improve it a little.

lealar 22-01-2008 12:00 AM

yeah good stuff too, there is a lack of something. The lights angle I think. Maybe more.

I love this one.

Agent_Dick 22-01-2008 07:09 AM

Must say that you've got that thing looking slicker than a Bill Clinton-Johnny Cochran oil wrestling match, and no mistake.

Excellent job, sir.

Hey agent_dick very nice of you to say :)

Here is the last render for tonight.

Tomorrow i`ll change the shadow by placing the lightsource higher.

Then i`l start a small animation. Nothing animated, just the camera.

lealar 22-01-2008 09:16 AM

Yes, Great. It's very nice. That's we are want. keep it up man!

This looks really cool!

What sort of environment setup are you using?

I've been playing with a couple, and yours is interesting. If you don't mind sharing, of course ;)

Nice work:beer:

AikoWorld 24-01-2008 12:24 AM

Thank you mayaniac,

I`m honoured to tell you my setup.

The horizon is a hdri image of low sun in the sky, with very few clouds.

The ground is just a lambert.

And the art in the left corner is photoshop, a personal touch.

the hdri image is from here
http://www.evermotion.org/index.php?...fold=exclusive

And as i love cartoon.

Your models looking great!

gubar 06-05-2008 10:34 AM

Hi aiko world,

looks great, only just started to think about making a car, and it was either this one or the mclaren f1.

Any chance of some wires? Particularly interested in transitional areas (corners, dips in towards lights etc) if at all possible.

cheers

gubar

Hi Gubar, here is the wire.
And have fun modelling.

Acid thanks for the comments :)

Renders are all Approximation, nothing is smoothed, when smoothing by dividing the mesh, you will get a different result which i dont like :)
And as this was my first test in 2K8 i wanted to see the results of approximations.
Thou that is for this project, for others i use smoothing divided mesh.

You just need to control your open edges better.
